Window tint

very nice

White 4runners 4thewin!!!!!

I love yours.
Now i have been tinting as a hobby for 6+ years.

I put 20% on my front but it is not a true limo. Just a 3M charcoal. i dont like it. You can see right through it.

ONLY at night it looks good. I did put 20 over my factory rear. Looks damn good!

Now for those of you who tint yourself, have you used pre-cut tint(s)?

They are so convenient until it is ridiculous. Now if you mess up, you just gotta order another piece.

I need to know where to get 15% tint. This 20% sux. Any suggestions would be great.

My favorite brand(s):
3M
Llamar
Huper Optics
Johnson Control

Sorry, i got off on a tangent.

clemsonfan15...thank you for taking those pictures. Seeing everyone's pics with front windows matching the factory backs was surprising for me. First thing Monday I'll be scheduling an appointment.

And to the white 4runner owners that posted - you just made my decision harder on whether or not to have the white or black lettering out on the new tires I plan on buying this week. I thought for sure I would go black side out after after doing that with my old black '99 t4r...now it's a toss-up.

Just one more dumb question...What is the brow? Is that an additional narrow darker strip along the top edge of the window or is the brow the strip across the top of the windshield?

Thank you so much everybody for posting pictures! I didn't think I would get so many responses. They all helped out...and I never get bored seeing pictures of the best looking auto on the road :p

bootown, the tint brand was suntek. It was non-reflective.

clemson, when bootown said reflective or non reflective, he wasn't referring to the chrome lookin shit you see on the gangsta rides. Regular tint comes in either non reflective or reflective. You probably wouldn't even be able to tell the difference in the two unless you are experienced with tint or you had them right beside each other. One is more reflective then the other, but both give that regular black look.

yes snow it is my system i want to hide (when i get it installed). and clemson for some reason my 4runner even though its limited didn't come with a towing package, the rear sun deflector, or the rear cover thing so tint is probably actually cheaper to get then the cover.

i think i will probably just go with 5 all over the back for maximum privacy and just hope i never need to roll down my back glass while its raining lol.

I think most shops now use precut, they have switched over and dropped a few grand on the giant plotters to cut from templates.

I kinda want to do my windshield now...

I think you ought to too :D.

FYI though, it can be expensive. Also, some places will not do it b/c it's illegal.

Still though, it's def worth having. This is the 2nd 4Runner I've owned that I've had the entire windshield tinted. Love it.

You can say that again, i only know one tint shop here that will do front windshields and they will only do 35%. Here in NC i believe it is a felony offense of some sort

Rock Slide, ha you have your entire front windshield tinted? nice! what's that like?

Yep, the entire windshield is tinted :D. Love it.

What's it like...it rocks! It's only 35%, so from the inside looking out, it doesn't even look tinted. Most passengers who ride in my 4Runner for the first time don't even know it's tinted. But from the outside looking in, it's very noticeable it's tinted.

IMO, having the entire windshield tinted completes the flow of having all the other windows tinted too. It makes everything blend together much better. I see these guys driving around with 5% all around and no windshield tint. I just laugh, b/c I can clearly see them when looking directly at the front of the car! lol

Wow, that sucks. I know if you have a doctor's excuse, you can have your entire front windshield tinted pretty much any where around here.

A lady I work with has a skin condition and can burn real easy if exposed to sun light for an extended periods of time. Therefore, her doctor insisted she have all her windows and entire front windshield tinted all to 35%. She took her camry to a local tint shop, showed them the doc's note and they did all the tinting. Now she just carries that note around with her in case she gets pulled over for it.

One more quick story - Friend of mine use to have an '04, four door Ford F150. He had all his windows tinted 20% and even his entire front windshield tinted 20%. (Now that's too dark IMO. Trust me, I know.) It wasn't 2 months of having the tint installed, when recv'd a ticket for having his windshield tinted. He had to pay a $100 fine and remove the windshield tint within 3 days. I tried to tell him he went to dark :D. I , on the other hand, have yet to have any issues with mine. :bigok:

you know, I have pretty fiar skin. And every time i am at the doctor he is always worried about me getting sunburned and saying how i need to stay out of the sun. He always tells me to have sunscreen on if im out in the sun, maybe i should suggest that... :D

hey sn0wrunner,

are you close to Durango? im thinking about going to Fort Lewis, my bro said it was amazing to live in CO.

here's what i know.

i'm just gonna say what i know, altjhough its been said.
the guy who tinted my windows tinted the windows on the U.S. capital building, along with all the dallas cowboys cars. so hes legit.
anyways, factory tint is 18% tempered glass, 20 is about as close as you'll get since its a sheet, rather than a "dye''. i have 5% on my front two windows, and put 16% over the factory glass to match, and on my rear window is 5% on top of factory which is about 2%, but from the back it looks like all the other windows because there is direct light coming in from the windsheild. the reason your side windows look darker is because your basically looking through two shades of tint. if i wanted to stay legal i would tint my back window to 15 and my front to what ever is legal, and you gotta rock the 5% brow.
all in all, what ever tint is legal, what ever is darker will look better, legal tint is a joke. honestly i wouldnt waste my money to keep it legal, i would just go out all out and black it out.
its is a little harder to drive until you get used to it which takes about a week, but having the back window that rolls down is major plus.

If it were me, I'd def ask my doc about it. The worst he can say is no :D

Windshield tint is pretty nice. I think I got a pretty good deal personally, $80 for the whole windshield.

I don't really like the blacked out look for window tint. Sometimes it can be too dark.

Maybe Im just a party pooper but my idea of a fun drive isn't worrying about getting pulled over. Once you are pulled over for a tint violation cops in my experience pretty much give you the third degree because they think you must need to hide something. (hence dark tint)

This was my experience in my Volvo 850R I had previously. I was lined up on the curb many times and had my car searched for my full 5% tint. You pretty much loose all your rights once they pull you over.

That is why I prefer to give the PO no default reason to pull me over anytime they might be suspicious or just want to hassle someone. Just my two cents.

huh

Man..
All I want is 15% up front because 20% you can see my radio and other stuff and PLUS it helps with these leather seats in the summer time.

I hate when you park somewhere and people walk by looking in your car.
WTF?

If you want to black it out, it looks good but here in SC & NC, the cops (well the ones in my area) have nothing else better to do than f with you about some damn tint. You got robbers and killers out there and you dont have to be speeding either to be messing with you.

Just be safe. If I get pulled i will be like it came when I bought the car. Sorry...
Im not taking it off...

15% anyone? Please let me know where to get it so I can put it on.

Thanks

Colorado is amazing, I love it!

Durango is like a 6 or 7 hour drive from where im at. But i've been there and visited the campus. A few of my friends go there and they love it. I was from a small town and wanted to go to a bigger school though so Im going to CU in boulder. Not a big fan of Boulder or the weirdos in it, but i like the school and the scenery is amazing.

I don't think you would want to come up to Greenville, but I got all mine done at Eclipse Tinting and he seems really good.

I auctually just got a phone book and called pretty much all of the places to get quotes. This guy was one of the cheapest. This method is probably not the best, if you have the money go ahead and pick your places. I didn't want to spend another $100 though.

Make sure the place will give you a warranty and make sure that you survey the place first. If the place looks sketch I would take it somewhere else.

lol, i found that to be true as well! I called this place and he said he just works out of his garage at his house and so a friend and i went and checked it out. He took us for a walk around his neighborhood to show us all the cars he had tinted (not sure if i believed him). But i let him do my windows anyways. He did all my windows accept for the front driver and passenger, and he did a strip across the windshield. He also sold me his monster energy fridge he had, all for $250. I think it was a good deal... The tint turned out great, and i got a sweet mini fridge!

x3. Took mine to a sketchy place - 2 guys in a garage. The owner goes by the nick name "Peanut". lol

They did a great job though. Took them about 40mins to do all 8 pieces of glass. The tint & labor both came with a lifetime warranty. 2.5yrs later and the tint still looks great.

Snowrunner, nice mini fridge :bigok:
