Windows 8 - Will It Fail? | Sounds pretty horrible if you read the reviews (thoughts)

So everything I have read about Windows 8 indicates that is a GIANT shift away from traditional Windows.

Most of the tech reviews all seem to be against it and the consensus I have read leads me to believe I will not get it.

I am not a MS hater. I adopted Win7 18 months before it was first sold to the public.

The main criticisms stem around the fact that Windows 8 gets rid of the entire Windows experience, mainly having a desktop and open Windows LOL.

The desktop interface looks and works much as it did in Windows 7, except that you won't find a Start button or Start menu, both of which have been core features of the software since Windows 95 debuted about 17 years ago. And you no longer see the desktop when you start up Windows.

When you launch an application designed for the Metro interface, it runs full-screen by default, not inside a window. You can split the screen between two applications, but that's it. Unlike with the desktop, you can't see more than two applications at a time on a single screen.

I still have XP on my laptop. I use vista and Win7 constantly at school in the computer labs.

XP was my fav and they just keep getting farther and farther away from it..

For the record, my ex had a windows phone and I flippin' hated that interface. Android is way better.

i tried it out... its not for me. Feels to " mobile"
but i hated vista and 7 at first now i love them so who knows

Well I really liked Windows 7 (x64) and still do.

I skipped Vista but left XP in the dust back in 2007.

I like win7 a lot too. I just like all the stuff I can mess around with on XP.

Win 7 is good, 8 looks to have some slightly better performance, but I need assurance of 2 things before jumping to 8
1/ easy upgrade, including apps, and email from 7 to 8
2/ an app or two that restores the Win 7 look and feel, (x to close windows, start btn)

It looks like the mobile version to me. And with all of that running, I can't imagine how it can't be a resource hog?!

As an I.T. Engineer, I'm always fairly quick to adopt new technologies. That said, I downloaded the consumer preview and placed it in a virtual machine. I am not really thrilled with the default interface and the "start" button in the upper left that does nothing. It does load, however, very quickly for an OS, so in that regard it's pretty impressive. The look/feel will take a little time to get used too, and I found myself thinking I was using a windows mobile device. I'm currently running Windows 7 64 bit, and it's rock solid. I doubt I'll have any incentive to update to Windows 8 but only time will tell.

every Windows version was better then previous so far.with exception of middle version like windows ME. I used it since windows 3.1. I`m sure 8 will be fine, Microsoft is still biggest softwaRE COMPany in the world, so far they were very successful.

Win 3.11 snowball FTW! Lol , xp has been the best of modern revisions though win7 had some neat features and runs awesome it just didn't feel as powerful to me, win8 new layout looks scary and don't really care about the whole seemless mobility thing they are trying to do here and i won't care until they produce some mobile products that i actually want , Windows phones and tablets aren't do too well and apps are lacking far behind even Google whose behind Apple, so why would i want to turn my pc into a part of that framework? I love the idea and could be amazing to essentially carry your desktop with you on your phone or tablet but they got to make a phone and tablet market i want to be part of first before making me conform to their layouts on my desktop top , i think its kind of a sleazy move tbh ....ill be skipping this revision unless speeds and footprint is increased/decreased respectively.

Im not a huge fan of windows but i don't mind my XP computer, i have lion on my macbook, and it's really pretty neat even though it has some mobile like features.

Maybe windows 8 will be better and its just everyone anticipating it being like vista.

Exactly! Why would anyone want their perfectly working power machine desktops to act more like a Windoes Phone or any phone for that matter.

I have an Andoid G-Nexus, a work iPhone 4s and an i7 desktop running Win7. I even used to have a MBP.

I have 0 desire for a tablet interface on my desktop. I think this whole thing will be a total failure.

Sounds even worse than Vista and 7. I tried Windows briefly after I simultaneously dropped and spilled coffee on my AL MacBook. Spec'd out a nice Toshiba for about $750 and had another Mac, my current MacBook Pro 13" within 2 weeks. No way will I make that mistake again.

I have been running my favorite workstation ( Intel dual Xeon 3.4's w/ 4gb ddr2 ECC ram-Bulletproof) with Windows 7 now for over two years. A daily run of Anti-Malewarebytes and its problem free to this day.

I have an old blade server i compacted into a old (modified) dell case that runs Windows Server 2008 and i love it also. The security is fantastic and its speed is unmatched from anything i have used.

That being said, i picture Windows 8 being another bloated o/s like Vista. <<<---Piece of crap.
