Windshield on '07 4Runner cracked

Thanks for the tip. I read somewhere else that the some glass (mostly house glass...) is treated in the tempering process, and lasts a lifetime.

I noticed that you didn't comeback with the results of your glass replacement in one of those posts. How was the new windshield?

My '05 is on its 3rd windshield, and this one has had 2 chips repaired. I also had to replace the gate glass once.

I have full glass coverage on my insurance with no deductable. I was wondering, if I were to encounter a cracked windshield, will I then have a choice in what shield I want mine replaced with?

I have an '07 and just had my windshield replaced last weekend. My insurance company suggested I take it to a safelite repair shop, so I did. Toyota was going to charge me $1250 for the windshield, then $200 for installation. (I checked 2 dealerships and another one quoted me the same price for the glass, but only $100 for installation.) Safelite only charged me $250. We'll see how long this glass lasts.

As a side note: I didn't have one, but if you have an electronic rear view mirror (auto-adjusting and/or compass, make sure you don't get stuck with a basic one with the new windshield.

Depends on your insuarance company. I asked them if I could get Toyota OEM glass and they said yes at the time since my truck was still very new (a little over a year old). If it happens again, I doubt they'd say yes again, but you can bet I'll ask. Never hurts to ask...

Well except if your girlfriend tells you she's pregnant and you ask, "Is it mine?" then it'll probably hurt :D
