I just got my windshield repaired at safelite. Overpriced. Has anyone noticed a disportionate number of rockchips? Anyone have any opinons on surface chips?
I had mine replaced because of numerous tiny chips- the shop said they were really too shallow to fill as they werent fisures or cracks. They said that they wouldn't result in cracks, but I didn't like them and keep seeing little glints from the sun. New windshield= $780; insurance paid it all minus my $100 deductable
Safelite did my '12 Camry XLE after a rock and then a large crack and it listed for $1201 !!! and wasn't even the noise reducer type that comes on the Hybrid. Literally took the technician 15 minutes in my driveway. Toyota must use some kind of magic glass.
Had my windsheild replaced for about $375 about 18 months ago when hit by a rock then it cracked. I heard that Toyota glass was expensive so I thought the quote might be a knock off glass but it was a Toyota windsheild.
Just had mine replaced for the second time since I got my TE last April. Total came to about $554.00. They had to replace the two outer trim pieces for the second windshield. The tech told me that they can reuse them only once. But that only added about $50.00 to the total price.
I think the steep angle of this windshield seems to catch more rocks and stuff than other vehicles that I have owned.
Guess that is just another price to pay for owning the T4R, at least it does not break down much (not at all yet) at 29k miles in 9 months.
I repaired chip once, autolight did a great job , I paid nothing.
my insurance paid it all. Premium to cover all glass not just windshield is just $4 a month, zero deductible. well worse it IMHO.
If you've only got minor chips and not actual chunks of glass missing, you can sand your windshield with 3000 grit sandpaper and buff most of them out. I plan to do this on my T4R that has a ton of tiny little chips.
