Wiper Arm, Strange Canadian Invention...?

This vehicle came from Canada with these clamps attached to the base of both wiper arms. I left them there, but have not seen anything similar, nor do I know whether they help the wiper do its job...

Anybody else see these before?

yep. I have seen those before. they help put a bit more pressure on the blade so the wiper works better. its a cheaper alternative to buying a new arm.

Its a must own for any 4th gen driver. I dont even have snow where I live but the pollen is awful and without this spring the rear wiper is essentially worthless.

Yup. Got one on my rear wiper arm. Considering all that snow in Canada I can see where they would be helpful.

One of the first things I added to my 4runner. Without it I may as well not have a rear wiper.

wondering if replacing the built-in rear wiper spring is the better option. anyone do this?
