Sorry, but I still think your general premise makes no sense, at least in regards to the rear wiper. I'm not asking for much. I just want the rear wiper to cover more than 60% of the back window. And it's not a question of gearing necessarily. It's the molding of the rear fairing, wing, whatever you want to call that thing that the wiper is housed in. The plastic molding is not even cut out wide enough to allow more coverage, regardless of gearing. There seems to be no reason for this that I can come up with.
I walked past a new Sequoia in the parking lot today, and it struck me that the rear wiper design was a lot like the old 4Runner design. The base was on the rear tailgate, below the window. Not shoved up under the rear spoiler (wing, whatever). And I have no doubt it covered most of the rear window that you would want to see out of. Now, I don't know what spurred the design change from the old setup (which seemed to work just fine, from what I can remember), but it doesn't seem to be because it was cheaper. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just can't see either system being a huge money saver in these categories of vehicles. I think the current setup sucks, and would be a fairly easy change in upcoming model years. But the
Toyota engineers seem to be pretty right on about almost every design aspect in the 5th gen T4R, so it's hard for me to believe they just blew it on that one. All I know is, I don't like it, and don't think it would be a big deal to import the same configuration from similar Toyota SUVs without compromising their bottom line, or alienating their customers. Anyone know if the Highlander is like the 4Runner in this aspect? Anyway, sorry about the diatribe and ongoing thread derail. Please continue with your regularly-scheduled conversation.:thumb3:
