Wiring question

OK, here is my drawing. I purposely left out anything to do with the lights on the switch, because they can be used a variety of ways and I don't want to confuse things. If you tell me when you want the lights to come on, we can draw that out too.

I'm not sure which pin is activated in which direction by the switch, but I'm pretty sure it's opposite of movement. In which case down on the switch would activate T1 giving you LEDs when you open the door. Up would trigger
T6 which would give you LEDs with the headlights. Ends up being pretty simple.

Thanks again! That is exactly what I needed. I ordered the switch (and the rocker body). The only thing I don't understand is the power source. I am going to be running a power cable to the battery, I guess I could tap that line, but it is a pretty thick wire. You mentioned before, that I should tap a wire from the fuse. You were probably already going to answer this on your next post anyway-
 
Best to keep it simple and tap the dome lamp circuit at the driver's side junction block. It's a Blue wire with a yellow stripe, I can research the exact location.

You can trigger the back up camera with the reverse light circuit, but the front camera is going to need a switch. Had you given that any thought?
 
For the front camera, I was planning on using the remote wire from the radio. That only gets power when the radio is on. I was assuming I would need to use a relay to power it, or can I just tap the power line right into the remote wire with no relay.

Would the dome lamp circuit only have power when the dome light is on?

OK, I'm a little lost on this "remote wire" from the radio. I looked at the diagram and your model didn't have a front camera interface, so I'm not sure what wire you are referring to. I'll look at it again, just to be sure.

The dome lamp circuit is hot ALL the time, that's why I chose it. Also it ties in to the LED's in the footwell, sort of.

No way for me to know if you have the same manual I am looking at online, but you have the DNX691 HD and the manual I'm looking at shows two versions of the DNX, 5/6 and 7/8. On page 22 of what I see, it shows a front camera input and camera control, but it says DNX771 and DNX891 only. Take a look at yours and let me know.
 
My stereo does not have a front camera interface. I was planning on using the "AV in" port.

The remote wire, (labeled P. remote on this stereo) is the wire that you run to an amp to tell it to turn on (on only when the stereo is on). Blue wire with white stripe-

OK, I see what you were thinking. But that would have your front facing camera displayed all the time! You could put a switch in between if you want, or just use a different source with a switch.
 
Are you sure that as soon as the camera gets power, it "takes over" the display? I may not want to do a front camera. Sounds like a pain in the ass. It doesn't sound hard to wire, but I don't want another switch for a camera I will seldom use.

No I'm not sure, it may require that you switch to that input on the head unit. I didn't actually read the manual. :pop2:
 
Ant chance you about antennas? The stereo is a navigation unit, and I have to put the antenna someplace. Its designed to go on the dash, but I was thinking of running it to the top of the windshield, and sticking it to the windshield near the rear view mirror. This would mean it would be upside down. I did some research, and people are saying the GPS antennas don't need total line-of-sight, but I wasn't sure if upside down would work.

By the way, just got the switch. Looks really nice. Thanks for the recommendation.
 
Yes it works good ,sometimes my bluetooth takes a minute to connect ,but i think its more of the head unit than the antenna location as i doesn't matter where my phone is located as it still wont recognize it right away .but this is usually just for music never phone calls ,cause my head unit will play music wireless off my phone
 
I need a power source that is on when the car is on (not on all the time), or just on when the stereo is on. Thoughts? I need to power the front camera. I guess I can tap the rear power into the reverse wire?

for the front camera, couldn't you just tap into the blue wire (remote wire) on the back of your stereo? Lots of folks use it for the power antenna but it would only power when the stereo was on
 
Did the install Friday and Monday. Carpet Friday, stereo and wiring on Monday. Stereo works, LEDs and cameras do not. Not quite sure what I did wrong. They are all grounded into the same place, maybe the ground is bad. I grounded them into the bolt that holds the driver's side junction box. I also sanded the paint down to metal.

I powered the cameras with the grey wire from the cigarette lighter. I connected the reverse wire (from the stereo) to the red wire with yellow stripe in the driver's side junction.

I wired the LEDs like IBallEngineer told me to.

What did I do wrong? Thoughts?
