Wits End Fire Extinguisher Bracket // Pre-Order

Since this got a bit buried in the thread about the original prototype, I wanted to start a new thread for those interested.

We have Wits End making the bracket for production, and we're currently doing a pre-order on the final product.

I know safety upgrades aren't as flashy as light bars, new tires, etc. But this solves a critical mounting issue for a safety device those of us MAY be called upon to use while offroading.

You can also mount stuff besides fire extinguishers as well. Take a walk on over to the website, and give it an order!

Note: photos are the prototype, and the CAD rendering is indicative of the final design:

Very cool. Ill pre order one. Better to have it an not need it than....well you know. Thanks :yo:

Drat just read about the seat sliding limitation. My wife is a midget at 5ft and moves it all the way forward. I may have to move it between offroad trips.

Exactly, it's one of those pieces of gear you hope to never HAVE to use. But at the same time, I got tired of hearing people saying, "I have a fire extinguisher in my truck, I'm fine" to which I'd say, "can you get it in under 10 seconds, and from seated?"

To which I'd get some grumbling and a "no..."

This solves that.

Mine was preordered the day you announced it! I was going to go buy a fire extinguisher for the cargo area but luckily I saw your post. I probably still will but to have it in this in a spot that is easy to access is a huge plus.

I'm borderline 5' 5/6" so if this doesn't work on the driver side, it should mount on passenger side fine correct? I usually ride solo and my passenger that usually rides with me is much taller so it may make sense to put it on that side.

Finally! Been waiting for a good secure place for a fire bottle placement. Thanks for the heads up. I placed my order just now.

Looks nice! What brand fire extinguisher is recommended so the mounting bolts line up? And what size fire extinguisher? I'm thinking of mounting an extinguisher on the passenger side and get a second one to mount my streamlight flashlight charger/mount driver side. Thanks

It has a universal hole pattern, so it'll fit the majority of fire extinguisher brands. It'll hold a 1 or 2.5lb extinguisher. And sure, you could easily mount your flashlight on the plate system.

I got one the day there were available. I plan on mounting my CB radio to it and possibly a holster. Looks awesome! Can't wait to get it.

Damn... Just imagine what if there was no snow to throw at the fire...

My concern on this extinguisher installation is, do this little metal belt/clip would be able to keep the bottle from becoming air born and bashing my face in the event of a crash?

Yes. The quality of your actual mount will determine safety. I've done some very hard braking since installing mine and they've never budged. I'd be far more concerned with iphones and whatnot hitting you then the fire extinguisher which is much more secured.

It is a good idea to have one handy like that. What material and finish is the plate.

I use one of these on my trail rig. It works good on a roll cage... I wonder if it would work with the plate. Those std buckles can be a little difficult to deal with in an emergency.

I believe 12ga steel, and powder coat finish.

And yes that mount can work, worst case you can drill two new holes. I will personally be using the TEK208 QD mounts on mine.

What about mounting it on the passenger side?

I'll probably do that. I would prefer it to be driver side but I'll figure something out. Maybe some blocks on the pedals and a few phone books on the seat lol.
Lol!!

I'm in the same boat as you. Gf is 5'4".

Interested but do you ever find the extinguisher in your way when you hop in and out? Does your feet hit it?

Here's an experiment, sit in your seat and look at your natural resting position of your feet. You usually have two, one where your left foot is more vertical and one when it's on the rest at the very front. In both of those you're at least 4-6" away from the fire extinguisher. I've never hit it basically, and it's actually uncomfortable to bring my feet back far enough to purposely hit the can.

Long story short: nope. not an issue.
