Woolwax application on a 14 year old 4RNR?

Has anyone had Woolwax (or Fluid Film) applied to the undercarriage late in the life of their Gen.4 4RNR? I love my ‘07 that I recently purchased and want to preserve her life as long as possible. I have given a cursory look at the undercarriage and the frame rails look “decent”. I didn’t find any rust through, just rust at the welds. The skid plate is toast and will be removed and the cross members are somewhat flaky with rust but don’t seem to be compromised. Has anyone done the Woolwax (or had it done) application and did it arrest the progression of any more rust? I understand it needs reapplied (touched up) yearly which I am fine with. I talked to a local shop that does this and they say it will do a great job of halting any further rust...but then again they are selling a service and product.

Unfortunately there’s not great research on that - especially adding it to a 14 year old car and seeing how it does over the next 5-10 years.

It won’t hurt. I think if you can afford it or want to do it yourself and want to do everything you can to limit further corrosion go for it

Yes, do it. I descaled mine and painted it with John Deere blitz black frame paint, then fluid filmed. I live in New England, and after a winter of salt and crap it looks like it did last fall. Its good insurance, even on an older vehicle.

I researched this EXTENSIVELY a few months ago... What you want is Cosmoline. It doesn't make a mess like fluid film, wool wax or other similar products. Costmoline is a spray that drys to a dry waxy finish. CRC Marine sells a product called "Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor". This is a rebranded Cosmolone formula and works awesome. I took a wire brush to my frame, and put about 3 cans worth all over my frame and it left no mess. Go checkout Project Farm on youtube, he has a nice rust inhibitor video. This stuff is the bees knees and most importantly doesn't leave a mess.

If Cosmoline is good enough to protect submarines/ships in the salty ocean, it is good enough for me.
