Would these wheels look right?

I am looking to put some bigger tires on my stock SR5, but not Off road tires. Would these wheels look funny wrapped in some 285-70-17 Michelin LTX? My truck is Classic Silver btw. If not some suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at pictures on this site, but most people have the bigger off road tires when they add rims.

Why bump to a 285/70 if you are not going to leave tarmac? The point of putting on bigger tires is to increase ground clearance at the diff/axles, so its pointless to lose mileage and power for a highway only vehicle (which is a safe assumption given you are going to put street tires on it).

Broc, I put, 285's on for a few different reasons, mostly I wanted as much ground clearance as possible even though my rock climbing days are over. Living here in Florida, some of the boat ramps here are pretty steep. I have seen many other vehicles "bottom" out when loading/unloading due to the angle of recovery from the ramp to the road. I understand why others use lower size tires, more clearance for tire travel when off roading, but again, not too many rocks down here.

As Ride also stated, Aesthetics. I think filling the wheel wells simply looks better.

Micky, unless you do not like the looks of the OEM wheels or, if you think that you need new/larger wheels for the 285's, mine fit nicely on the OEM wheels. There might be other 285/70/17 tires out there that require a wider wheel, not sure. Here is a photo of the tires as described in my signature with factory wheels.

And as a direct answer to your question, I think those wheels look good. But you know about opinions.........

Thanks for the info brockeverly. I wasn't even thinking about the mileage drop and horsepower loss. Like the the others said, I was thinking more about the looks.

Ride, your wheel/tire combo is amazing. The stance is exactly what I think I think I am looking for. How are those Tera Grapplers as far as road noise and wear? Will I get 30k miles out of them? With your setup, do you have a problem with the tires kicking up stuff outside of the federwells?

Jtraskell - Do you have any front views or views at an angle where I could see how far out the wheels fill? Looks really good.
ps. I know you what you implying and that is one of my favorite sayings. That's what I am looking for though, everyone's opinions.

Ok so I need some help figuring out if I am going to rub guys. I have added 1" wheel spacers to the stock SR5 wheels and put Firestone Destination 285-70-17 tires on. I am rubbing a little even after moving the inner front fender liners and reshaping the back liners. I have these wheels on order through Jegs but they are on back order until May.

Right now I have the 17X9 with -12 offset ones ordered. Do you think I will have rubbing issues as I plan on taking the wheel spacers off? Or should I go with one of the 17 X 8 options that come in +25mm, +10mm, and +1mm and keep the wheel spacers on.

If you do a search on Jegs for "ultra crusher 17 6 5.5 face" the wheel options will come up.

I also have the Bilstein 5100's on order and plan to set them to 1.75" lift.

I am going to still be using the 285-70-17' Firestones

These wheels have a 106.1 mm bore, those should fit right?

Jtraskell, so what I'm understanding is that you have stock suspension with no lift or wheel spacers and you have no rubbing issues with your truck?
I really want to go with the 285/70/17 over 275/70/17's but don't want it to rub. I also want a smooth comfortable ride so I don't want AT or MT tires which I know with such an aggressive tire they are more likely to rub as well.

When I just had the 285-70-17 firestones, no spacers, no lift, I wasn't rubbing. Hope that helps

When they were first put on, no rub. After I changed the castor, slight rub at full lock left and right, but only in reverse. Simple adjustment to front inner wheel liners solved that problem. So yes, NO rub. Good luck, be safe.

Yes, that was with the Firestone Destination A/T. In my opinion they are not too aggressive, just maybe mild aggressive. I think they look great. I will try and take some pictures of the truck later today when I get it back from having the aftermarket remote start system finished.

Yes. Great Tires. Nice smooth Ride. I got "D" load, 8 ply only because there were on sale, but "C" load, 6 ply would work great for most folks. They shown in the photos above.
