Proper torque of the lug nuts is the best way to avoid "warped" rotors.
 
So I went to pick up the 4runner tonight and the guys dad was there...wearing a Toyota dealership shirt. The seller AND his father work for a dealership in the parts and service dept!!

I mentioned that I had researched the VIN and saw all the service records... they looked at each other and laughed, and said, anytime it was in for scheduled maint, we just told them to fix ANYTHING that needed it, so the actual service history isn't an accurate assessment of past service. He gave me his card ans told to call him if there were ANY issues!

Cruise control works, sunroof works... even went thru a car wash on the way home... zero leaks. The rear window works, electric seats etc.

There is some wear on the drivers seat, but I just ordered some Wet Okole seat covers tonight.

I'm feeling ok about $3500 :)
 
Dropped it off with my mechanic for a once over this morning...snapped these in the lot before I forgot.

Hoping it was $3,500 well spent.

Bought some nice wet okole seat covers last night... too bad they take about 6 weeks to arrive!

That would be awesome! I will be in KY in May for the NRA convention and to see my folks as they live close to where it's being held. Then heading up to Black Hills in July and am trying to get my vacation days to coincide with the Black Hills Cruiser Classic event. Other than that, not much planned for this summer so if we can get a nice group ppl from the Tornado Alley activated, I don't see why it couldn't happen.

As for the running boards removal, I agree, it does make the vehicle look meaner and more well rounded. Plus it's a small weight reduction which helps. Keep in mind, you might want to (eventually) look into some front mud flaps to keep the possible damage from debris to a minimum. Soon as I find a solution, I too will be removing mine.

You paid $3.5K for a truck that should give you 100K miles with minimum maintenance, more if you put some effort in to keeping it. Let's look at it another way. Suppose you were to take your $3.5K and another $4.5K and use it for a down payment on a new 5 Gen. Your payment would rock in at something like $1K per month, $12K per year, 5 years minimum and the value of the truck would drop with every single payment you made.

$12K per year is more than the craziest modder on this board spends on their truck every year - at least after the first year. $12K you don't spend for 4 years = $48K you've saved by buying your 3rd gen.

My Dad always said that the time to buy a new car was when the cost of repairs each month exceeded the cost of payments on a new car. This never happens unless you buy some stupid European thing and particularly never happens with Toyotas.

This couldn't have been said any better. I just got a 97' myself and paid 4k cash.

And those running boards off make it look much better sweet build.
 
Pretty good buy...I was looking at one 2001 with no rust good shape, everything worked limited with 230K and he was asking $4800, So i think you did well, especially 1 owner and Toyota maintained.

Yeah mine has a mostly one owner besides a guy who had it for 3 months before me. I am about to do a total overhaul on it.
