Wrecked 4runner

That’s ****ed up.

I go to Canada all the time, and my car insurance works up there.

I guess Mexico has different laws?

Should have just left it in Mexico and reported it stolen. Would have been parted in 30 seconds lol. That does suck, i'd look for a new insurance company or look into making sure you're covered if you travel.

They have signs at the border crossing saying buy Mexico car insurance or you are not covered. If you are traveling to a different country make sure you are covered before crossing, because shit happens.

Most US policies cover Canada but I don’t know any that cover Mexico or any other country in central our South America for that matter.

For those who travel abroad it’s always good to check your health insurance coverage as well. Given the shadiness of our healthcare insurance system in the US is better to go knowing what your options are and purchase extra insurance accordingly.

Glad to see the op is okay and it stinks for sure to learn about this post accident.

Just wanted to add:

If you owe money on your car (i.e. financing) don't take it out of the US. Also, as the OP found out the hard way, most insurance plans don't cover losses outside of the USA unless you buy extra supplemental insurance.

I personally would never drive a new-er car in mexico with cali plates, you are asking for getting pulled over for a 25 dollar bribe. If what I told you still hasn't stopped you from driving into mexico, you can buy cheap-o mexican car insurance on the US side of the border in san ysidro before you cross over into mexico.

The thing I hate about mexico, is the bribes. If someone is asking you for 25 dollars (whether its a visa or a parking ticket, or moving violation), you are paying a bribe...lol.

This ^^^^^! Back in the day we did approximately 15 trips towing boats down the Baja to Santa Rosalia, East Cape area and Cabo. Never go down there with new high value vehicles and boats. Always carry Mexican insurance. We no longer do such trips as the costs were no longer reasonable and I am a high value target with too much to lose. Better to do fly down trips.

You do not want to be in a Mexican prison. I know of several who faced this issue and basically they flip you upside down until they shake every last penny out of you and your family. I wish they did the same to illegals in the U.S. I've been hit several times by uninsured illegal aliens here in CA.

Love the Bronco's! Still have them?

Yes, the beige one a '73 with 3 spd manual. The blue one was my friend's in the first pic of the beige one. The blue one was a '74 with automatic. He's not mechanically oriented and tends to drive his stuff into the ground and get rid of it. Wish that I had bought that blue one from him.

We are in process on a frame up rennovation of the '73. That thing spoiled my wife for all future offroading expectations.

wonderful. I have a 70 uncut and pretty much stock. Funny how these cheap little trucks are now worth more than a new 4runner.
