Where are you mounting the antenna? That medium spring will allow the antenna to hit the vehicle if you mount it too low, like on the tailgate mounts that most 3rd gens run. A heavy spring might be better suited for you if so.

I'm mounting it on the tail light mount that [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] sells, SRQ also sells one:see link below. Per mstudt with the medium spring it doesn't hit.

Where are you mounting the antenna? That medium spring will allow the antenna to hit the vehicle if you mount it too low, like on the tailgate mounts that most 3rd gens run. A heavy spring might be better suited for you if so.

These are the ones that I sell.

If you plan on running a 4' whip you will need a heavy duty spring. If you're running a whip 4' or longer on a medium spring you will have some body contact at highway speeds. Running a heavy duty spring is really the best option.

I would recommend a heavy spring but there has to be other members that opted for the medium spring that could chime in and confirm. Just food for thought.

-custom made mount(I wouldn’t build another one, just buy [MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] antenna mount, it’s cleaner and you don’t have to do all the measuring and cutting/bending.

I know how much time can go into such a small fab project like the antenna mount, mine took a long time to get all the angles right since I mounted it above the tail light where there’s weird angles. It looks like you have room to add a backup or dust light with all those dimple dies too. Did you tune the antenna? That’s key to making it work right and not burning up your radio.

Yeah, first thing i did is go out to a massive open field with no power lines or hills/trees nearby and tune it. 1.1 SWR Channel 1 and 1.4 SWR on channel 40, couldn't get it any better than that.

2 years ago I knew very little about all of this, I buy tools when I do a project I would need them for, I figure the amount I save by not paying someone to do the repair I can use a portion for on tools. Most of it just takes time and patience, some of it takes blood and sweat.
