WTB: 4th Gen, Shadow Mica, Sport

Come on...I know you want to do it. You want to sell me your good condition 4th Gen T4R Sport in Shadow Mica.

Listen, I know what it's like. Will the next owner take as good care of your "precious" as you did? Well, I can guarantee the following:

• Weekly jaunts up to the Rocky Mountains for some off-road loving.
• Plenty of proper washing...none of those automatic machines that swirl your paint. Even the undercarriage!
• Heck, I'm only 3 hours from Moab. MOAB!!! We'll be visiting at least once or twice a year.
• I'll even call it by the proper name you've given it..."truck", "4Runner", "Sadie", etc.

So, call me...maybe. Or reply below. Or a PM works fine too.

Good thoughts, thanks for sharing.

I had previously been steering away from Rust Belt vehicles. A few examples from the NE have ended up here in Salt Lake and their frames are pretty scary looking.

Does anyone have more positive experience with 8-10 year old vehicles from the NE states?

How does your Limited look underneath? I recall you being up in the NE states.

Does underbody washing really help? Can you tell the difference between a car that has had salt regularly washed off or not?

Unfortunately, the struts are dead and are leaking quite badly (cheers for the PPI). It also seemed a bit high in price ($19.9k) knowing I would have to immediately rip out the XREAS upon picking it up. The body looked good, though, and had excellent documented service history through the Toyota Owners website.


I passed hoping for other deals down the road.

Does underbody washing really help? Can you tell the difference between a car that has had salt regularly washed off or not?

I can't help you there. I moved up from Florida and bought this in MD. Mine looks like what I would expect. Minimal surface spots here and there. But I have seen much worse. I have to believe any washing you can do in the salt months is bound to help at least some. I'll be going over mine with some neutralizer as soon as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I've been hounding KSL for local trucks. The one you've linked is actually Galactic Grey Mica (1E9) instead of Shadow Mica (1F4). I've seen few Galactic Grey Mica's in person and have always felt the Shadow Mica is more my style. Although, I definitely appreciate your thoughts and for taking the time to post the link. Yeah, that posting went up last night. It's only in Park City which is just up the canyon. And only 105k on the ticker. Tempting...I may have to check it out.

Edit: It has the older V6 headgaskets. Hmmm. Maybe I'll at least take a look.

My saga continues without success. I've been looking almost every day for the last two months. I've paid for three inspections and two of the cars sold out from under me as the inspector was inbound. [emoji35]

My wife says I'm being too picky. My bank says the same thing. Should I settle for something less? Do others regret settling? (I do, but for a different car I own.)


2007-2009 V6 because I don't want to deal with headgasket issues down the road. V6 because of gas mileage and don't have anything to tow.

For example, this car...it's been in Indiana and Michigan for most of its life. Aren't frames completely destroyed from the Salt sprays they use out there? EDIT: price is $17k.

Well...yes, I was hoping for 4WD. I'm a decent wrench when needed but a 2WD -> 4WD conversion is probably beyond the tools in my garage. Thanks for replying, though. Cheers!

OP, how's the hunt going? My impression of the headgasket issue is that it affects mostly 2004/2005 MY. Are 2006 MY affected as well? Thought I read in one of the sticky posts gasket was redesigned sometime in 2006. Does this mean 2006 MY have the old headgasket design?
