wtf Colorado?

I have no issue with that - I had to pay for my own background check before working for a school district. Makes no sense for taxpayers to foot that bill.

Pretty sad, this convicted criminal, is now making our laws ???
Rep.-Rhonda-Fields.jpg

Funny, no mention of her criminal past on her website: Rhonda Fields | Justice, Fairness, Community

Interesting but I need more evidence. "An apparent mugshot of Fields was posted to the Magpul Industries Facebook page by a private user" is not real convincing. "apparent" and "private user" make me skeptical.

The fact that her son and his fiance were murdered on the street is a well-known fact.

I'll do some research...

Here you go...

The debate over guns laws in Colorado has taken several ugly turns, the most recent being a Facebook post targeting state Rep. Rhonda Fields, an Aurora Democrat, who is the sponsor of two firearms measures.

In the post by the group called Guns for Everyone, is an Aurora Police Department mugshot that appears to be from Fields’ 1991 arrest for shoplifting. Beneath the photo is text that reads “Criminals will Obey the Laws I introduce in Colorado.”

Subsequently the image was posted to the public Facebook page of Magpul, an Erie-based manufacturer of ammunition magazines and other firearms accessories. Magpul officials had to remove the photo on multiple occasions and condemned the posting on Wednesday, noting that their Facebook page is public and anyone can post images or comments to it. Moreover, they said the image was shared and posted to other Facebook pages and not just to their page.

Oh yeah, more recently she's paid somewhere around $1500 in fines for things like speeding, improper lane change, etc.

For the record she's my representative in Aurora, CO and she's okay in my book.

and she is "ok" with you ? :wow2:
granted, ALL of us have a past, but oh well enough

Wow... and the mag cap just passed. Goodbye Magpul. Goodbye mags over 15 rounds as well as most of the popular SD hanguns on today's market. :wow2:

It doesn't matter what they pass.

The laws are lightyears behind reality.

A politician with a criminal record is not uncommon, I hope you understand that as true. If you need verification spend some time on this link: List of American federal politicians convicted of crimes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

You'll notice the list isn't limited to one party or the other. Politics is a nasty business populated by good people as well as less than savory people. Criminal behavior isn't limited to the right or the left.

I never heard of her and can't find much about her. Don't much care to either.

Yes, I'm okay with her. I'm not okay with some of the stuff happening in my neighborhood and don't see anything in these laws being a problem. I don't need a bigger mag, I have nothing to hide, nobody's going to take my guns away, etc.

I think we do have one thing in common and that's your "enough" comment. I agree 100% with that.

While I appreciate the technology it is already a federal crime to manufacture firearms for distribution without a license. It's not about what we can do illegally (we already have plenty of that), but about officials making things illegal that were just fine yesterday without any statistical justification whatsoever.

This is a perfect example of politicians towing the party line regardless of how nonsensical it is nor with any consideration of how it can negatively affect your area's economy and your constituents' livelihood. To hear them simply ignore any and all concerns brought before them is just baffling. These were passing no matter what.

It makes Colorado less attractive to someone like me, who would be bringing in outside money. It makes it less attractive for companies like Magpul and their suppliers. It really does take things one step closer to being California #2.

Sadly, things will continue to progress, as they always do with legislation. Today it's 15 round limits... and then some school gets shot up by a dude with five 10 round mags. So then the limit is 7 rounds... and it happens again. Then we're either all shooting deringers or as our vice-puppet suggesting, rocking double barrel shotguns.

It's one thing if these limitations had data to support them. But we've been down this road and it didn't. Tighter restrictions only affect those of us who have something to lose by not following them. Someone willing to die to wreak havoc will not care. He will get his mags elsewhere, modify them, or find a new way.

I have heard that all this publicity has done a lot for Magpul's bottom line recently.

Kind of ironic isn't it?

Not really ironic; unsurprising at best. If you didn't think the Magpul stunt was anything but a publicity/cash grab you're not pragmatic enough.

You're missing the point. Nobody cares about "distribution". That's the core of 3D printing - the distribution is all digital.

A 3D printer is about $800:
MendelMax 2.0 Beta Hardware Kit - Maker's Tool Works

Download the schematic for the lower:
» DefDist AR-15 LOWER RECEIVER DEFCAD

Download the schematic for the magazine:
» AR-15 Magazine ? 30 Round Magazine DEFCAD

Order your AR-15 kit here (~$550)
AR15 kits and M-16 Parts From Top quality manufacturers of rifle barrels and parts.

When it's all said and done, even if all you wanted to do was build a single AR-15, your total cost is under $1500 and half of that is the printer.

The law does not matter if it's 100% unenforceable. It's illegal to download movies and music. That hasn't really stopped the downloads. They can make it illegal to download a gun - but that won't work any better.

Laws are only as good as the governments ability to enforce them. There are plenty of laws on the books that are not being enforced (homosexuality in Texas comes to mind) - these laws will likely become unenforceable as 3D printing goes mainstream.

I don't disagree with what you are saying and do agree laws are only as good as they are enforced (which is a major problem in the first place... the laws already on the books aren't being enforced). What I'm saying is that, while it's great I could make my own AR15 and 30 round mags, or hell, even 100 round drums, possessing them or ever using them outside the privacy of my home opens me up to legal liability. Further, if my house was raided for some reason or burned to the ground and these items were found, they could choose to prosecute me and send me away for years.

I have too much to lose to risk breaking the law, as do many people, which is why I choose not to do so. It's a common sense, moral responsibility, and self-preservation that keeps most of society in check. Take this away and you become no better than the criminals that actually need to be prosecuted.

Again, it's not about what we can do when no one's watching, it's about what we can no longer do as law-abiding citizens without fear of fines and imprisonment.

Now if you want to go off on the revolution tangent, that might be cause for another thread. Comparing what you would do when you try to respect the laws in place vs. what you would do in total anarchy to protect yourself, loved ones, and your society are very different topics.

That said, I can't wait until these printers become more affordable! I can think of all kinds of things to make instead of buying cheap junk from Wally World, etc.

I have heard that all this publicity has done a lot for Magpul's bottom line recently.

It is, and I'd say that if they are saying (and doing... we'll see) the right things that earn the support of the gun community, then good for them. I has certainly made me a Magpul customer. I've spent nearly $300 on their products in the past few weeks and it would have been more if I could actually find what I want in stock. I just hope these companies that are restricting sales to LEOs can afford to continue to do so. At a time when fed gov't is cutting defense spending and local and state govt's are slowing their own spending while individuals are arming themselves more than ever, I'm sure private sales are big $$ these days.

I have lived within 5 miles of the State Capitol for the past eight years, and it is really sad to see what has happened to our beautiful state. Conservative voices are no longer welcome in Denver. Anywhere I go in this city, I face brutal, overwhelming verbal assaults from vicious, disgusting liberals who think their way is the only way. I can only imagine the environment that pro-gun supporters face on the steps of Colfax. Denver has become an extremely biased and unfair location for a state capitol. Its time to move it somewhere more neutral.

You're missing the point. These laws don't make AR-15s unattainable. AR-15s will ALWAYS be attainable, ban or no ban.....Where there's a will there's a way. Anyone without regard for the law can find an AR-15 with or without a 3D printer. The sad thing about this law is it takes the right to own/ enjoy these guns away from law-abiding citizens. Those (like myself) who are not willing to break the law by manufacturing or purchasing banned weapons. There are literally millions of ARs legally owned in the US and a vast majority are possessed by good people who just want them to enjoy for recreation or personal protection. It's sad that we are criminalized by the actions of a few.

Kids I gave you a hint earlier. 80/20 lowers.

The only way to go.

The 3D printers is something I'm watching as well.

I'm confused... how does an 80/20 lower help? They aren't banning the rifles in CO (yet), just the mags. Even if they did, it's not a matter of not being able to get one, but a matter of not being able to get one legally. The people that do not like these changes are the ones following the law, thus not wanting to break it.

Maybe he's assuming this is a Clinton-style ban (where old guns...i.e. lowers, are grandfathered) and not a Feinstein/ Cuomo type where you can't even possess/ sell them? What are the exact details again?
