Did it fail due to normal on road driving? Do you do any offroading with it? Any idea what made it fail?

I do not know what made it fail. I just started to notice a difference in the way it handled, especially on curves, that is when I discovered the fluid leaking. Right before I noticed this, I had been on a trip where I was on dirt roads and trails for 4 days, but nothing too harsh.
I do USE my 4Runner; I do not abuse it. It is a daily driver, but it usually sees some light to moderate offroading a couple times a month and I tow with it. It is driven down dirt/gravel roads most every weekend.
All that said, I have never done something where I thought afterwards that I might have broke something, or done anything that was more than the 4Runner could handle.

Xreas is a good concept and works for it its intended purpose (better on road handling). The down side is that it is costly to repair. I think failure at 48K miles was a little too soon.

Do you remember about how much it was going to cost to repair it? I tried asking the dealership back in 2003, but of course they had not replaced any at that point.

Oh heck....I'm getting tired of hearing all of the ranting and raving about the X-Rags system. All someone with the SR5 has to do is replace the stock shocks with firmer ones. They now make aftermarket shock absorber that will give you a soft road ride at the top of the shock but will get drastically stiffer when it is compressed all of a sudden.

I did NOT want the X-RAGgity system nor did I want the V-8 w/full time AWD. The V-6's select-a-mode version handles so much better in the 2wd mode. I appreciate the feeling you get whenever one accels really fast in 2wd.
I think the Old Man Emu (OME) setup is very good and plan to purchase one this summer.

Is X-REAS avail. on a 2006 V6 Limited? Have not seen any and wonder why if it is so great. Cost of X-REAS is about $300 on new but none we looked at had it installed. We are only looking at Limteds. Maybe they are avial. on V8 Limited versions.

XREAS is a very good system and I like it. But pls don't do this mistake again, XREAS is not a god.

XREAS should be available on 2006 V6 Limited's. The only option you cannot get on a V6 is the adjustable rear air suspension.

As far as I know XREAS is standard on Sport Edition and Limited. The only one version which doesn't have XREAS is SR5.

Reason for my question is that we have been to 3 dealers and have yet to see one V6 with it installed. We are now looking at a Special Order with it installed, if possible.

Just wondering why none here in PA have it installed.

Very interesting, my '05 and all Limited here are with XREAS, its standard. Toyota made something to its option list...probably to get more money from Limited buyers.

Yeah weird but I have the 06 Catalog right here in front of me. The Limiteds in your area, are they V6 or V8 or both?

I am not 100% sure because I don't live in Canada, but I read that XREAS comes standard on all Canadian Limiteds. In the US, it is optional on both the V6 and V8 Limited.

I think that is because Canada has more meese than the US, and the XREAS is needed to swerve around the meese. ;-)

Yes, it's an option on Limiteds. On the V8's you can get X-REAS as a stand alone option or with the air suspension, can't get air suspension without X-REAS though. A product rep at an auto show told me, Toyota usually loads up their top of the line models making them fully loaded. He said, "Even though Toyota says you can nav on any trim, it's usually reserved on the top of the line. Like the Sequoia, they say you can get it on the SR-5, but none with nav exist, only on the Limited." He had a guide of what options are actually available on each trim.

I just tired to build a Limited V6, no X-Reas option in Central Atlantic Region. Have the dealers searched other's inventory? You may have to Special Order, or try another region.
