Y-pipe install

Dual out is purely for looks. If you did do a true dual, there is likely zero power gain and you need some kind of X pipe anyway. Not much room under there to work with and if done wrong you will hurt performance. Not worth it to me.

Any real gain is from getting rid of the cats. Long tubes into a H-pipe and what ever tone suites you fancy after that. Small bump in HP and a bit of lost torque.

I put a resonator tip on the stock exhaust so it's straight out the back. Looks much better and I actually like how it sounds as is. I was thinking UDR Y pipe to delete the 2 rear cats and leave everything else alone. I have just never heard it like that so not sure what to expect.

Thats my thinking. Stock cat back with the URD mid. They say it will work.

I have the TRD Intake also which I'm told makes the exhaust sound a little better regardless of what system is under there. I guess that makes sense since the air going in is louder so it stands to reason the air coming out is louder lol.

Right there with you. Just waiting on the the right time to pull the trigger. Exhaust and eventually a blower.

I just did a full install with an aFe intake, Magnuson blower, URD y-pipe, and Borla Touring exhaust. (I don't half-ass things, lol)

I love the power.

I'm not that thrilled with the exhaust.

I haven't found anyone with that exhaust combo with the blower, and for me it's not a winner. It's fine cruising (no drone), but it's louder than I'd prefer accelerating. Even just part throttle. Boomy loud, not raspy loud, which I wouldn't mind as much. I knew it was going to be louder, but I'm just not that stoked on it. Gonna swap out the y-pipe for stock and see what that does with it. I've heard the Borla without the y-pipe and this isn't that sound.

Might be a result of the blower. Might just be a bad combo of equipment. It's always a crapshoot which part is causing issues when you swap a bunch of stuff at once like I did.

That said, if there's any improvement without the y-pipe, I'm probably going to sell it. Seems like everyone with them on non-boosted Runners loves them. If there's no difference, I'll try swapping out the Borla for stock and see what that does. Worst case scenario it'll be just the intake and blower. Grateful for quality problems.

More to follow...

Dr monkey pants... That's weird to type. Just with the TRuD CAI its allot louder when the go peddle is engaged. I would imagine removing two cats would multiply that a great deal. Most i have read is people adding the headers and y that they dont like the sound.

If run a bigger muffler section ... it would help quiet it down.
Are your running the 3" borla ???

Maybe install a resonator between the cat and muffler? Plenty of room to install something in there.

I added the Borla 40665 a month ago and have the URD Y since Spring, I haven't seen anyone with this setup on this forum or at least not aware of anyone having the same, it's loud and does drone, below 2k in low gears, I'm sure Y has a lot to do with it. I do have a cai intake but I think that's more cabin noise than exhaust noise factors.

Options I have considered:
1. Invest in a Borla Touring
2. Resonator before muffler
3. Resonator after muffler

Would there be any negative impacts adding the resonator before or after the muffler?

Maybe I shouldn't wasted my time with the muffler but I'm enjoying the performance gains. Other t4r owners drove my truck comparing it with their mods and their ass dynos claims it's noticeable.

THOUGHTS?

Hey all. Just bought wife a 2019 TRD off road. Already ordered and received Borla cat back part #140760 s-type. Have not installed yet as wanting to do y-pipe at same time. Question is Will it drone with this exhaust system? Have heard it is fine with stock exhaust and urd exhaust... but most reviews of Borla exhaust say it sounds like stock...so I would think adding y-pipe wouldn’t change much. Will also add CAI if it won’t add drone. I will be in trouble if I make it too loud in the cab but I just have to open up these restrictions. Thanks for any feed back.

Most people say that the S-type is louder and has more of a drone than the touring, I have not heard of more droning from adding the Y-pipe though

Wasn’t aware Borla had other options...I called them direct and this was the only part # they gave for the ‘19. Leaning towards getting the y. Won’t know till I try. Can always change muffler or add additional to compensate? Thankyou much for the quick reply

I installed the URD Y-Pipe this weekend. Here are some pics and few notes:

Use Areokroil on everything
Remove the O2 sensors first, use the correct tool
Remove the silver hoop
Hold up the muffler with a stand
Loosely conect the front two flanges, loosely!
Use a couple wooden dowls to align the rear/muffler flange
Test fit the muffler flange with out the springs
Push up and down hard to get URD flange and Muffler flange to align
The gaskets are soft
Put front gaskets in late or they will get damaged. There is room to slide them in and get the correctly seated and the end of the job
Last step is reinstall O2 sensors

I have the stock muffler. I noticed no change in sound and a noticeable performance increase.

Have the Urd y-pipe on both 4r ,one has a flowmaster super 70ii & mine has delta 50suv model , very slight drone but at wot sounds (to me) like small block chevy back in the day ! I think has a nice sound to it . My only hassle is newer models 14'+ has a larger cat drivers side which as badattitude had to remove that bracket & where y-pipe merges with exhaust pipe little tricky bend there !
