Here's the problem with glue traps (aside from the issues above) - They have to be placed where the mice will walk on them. If you place them anywhere outside a mouse 'trail', the mice just don't find them (unless you bait them).
Peanut butter in a spring trap draws them to the trap for the food. Believe me, a mouse can find peanut butter anywhere you place the trap.
If you are concerned about other critters getting caught, just put the trap inside a cardboard box, cut a very small opening, and put a brick on the box.
