Yikes!!

I'm with those who suggest trying repeatedly to get it into 4wd. Servos, actuators, motors, etc. are all prone to sticking or freezing up. I was an avionics tech and aircrew member on C-130's in the Coast Guard. You would be amazed at how many things we got working by "cycling" it repeatedly in order to get it to work.
Electronic 4-wheel shifting was the ONLY downside I saw when trading in my old Jeep Grand Cherokee for my 4Runner, besides maybe the solid front axle that I sometimes wish I had on my 4R.

you should of gotten a 3rd gen so u would only miss one thing
and possibly get a sas kit for that

I'd hate to think that if the actuator dies you have to buy the whole t-case. Surely there has to be a fix without replacing the whole thing.

Yeah, mine is shot too. I use 4wd all the time and it changes within seconds, buts its been a loooong time sine I've used 4Lo. I've had 3 5-10min sessions where it just blinks. But before I shell out for a new Tcase I'm gonna keep trying it for a few more weeks/months. I might try sitting for 30mins and see what happens.

Are you putting it 4hi prior to trying 4lo? Are you attempting 4lo while in N?

it all depends on what gear you are in when you switch in, you hve to go to 4hi first, then to go into 4 lo i usually put the parking break on, put it in neutral, and keep my foot on the brake and it switches right in, if you dont use that sequence it will just flash endlessly.

Try it on a slight hill. Let it roll at 1-2mph and see if that helps. Don't let it roll faster than a very slow walk...

Finally got it working. Sat for 20mins with the thing flashing and it was a no-go. I switched back to 2hi, and that took 3 flashes. Switching to 4hi took 4 flashes, so I switched to lo, and every 30 flashes I cycled back to 2hi. Took 3 cycles, and it shifted into 4lo in 2 flashes. Drove around the neighborhood for a little over a mi in 2nd gear. Before I stopped at my house I stopped at gold's gym to sign my 4runner up. Will definitely be working my actuator now!
Had a similar situation with my truck as you. I had never tried 4lo and had a heck of a time getting it to go. Kinda scared me a little when it didn't work then when I swithed it back to 2hi it kept blinking 4lo. After a few cycles all is well.

It depends. i don't think thats out of the ordinary. You can sometimes get faster results, by pressing and releasing the brakes a few times, or shifting into neutral and back into d.
After reading this post and running mine through the 4hi and 4low its switch a lot quicker. Definetly a good idea to turn that 4x4 switch now and then!
As has been mentioned, its imperative that you "exercise" your 4wd system. I noticed on both of my 4R that after I put in syn fluid in all 3 diffs it shifted much quicker. It used to take 5 blinks on my V6 but never more than 3 after the syn was in there. All while coasting down from 10 mph from my driveway to the end of my street. On the V8 I have now 4LO is less than 1 blink.
