I'm with those who suggest trying repeatedly to get it into 4wd. Servos, actuators, motors, etc. are all prone to sticking or freezing up. I was an avionics tech and aircrew member on C-130's in the Coast Guard. You would be amazed at how many things we got working by "cycling" it repeatedly in order to get it to work.

Electronic 4-wheel shifting was the ONLY downside I saw when trading in my old Jeep Grand Cherokee for my 4Runner, besides maybe the solid front axle that I sometimes wish I had on my 4R.

I also am Aircrew, on Marine Helicopters, and yes I second that troubleshooting method. I hate it, but it works I'm not going to lie. After reading this thread, I went out and started up the 4runner and switched over to 4lo. I will now do this at Camp Pendleton monthly!

I've shifted into 4H at speeds up to 40mph without any problems. I hardly used 4lo though. I'll give this a shot tonight as well. I always thought 4lo was used in conjunction with the Downhill assist or a lower gear. ?!

4hi can be shifted up to 60mph. 4lo only in neutral.

Can shift out of 4H at any speed, but shifting in or out of 4L has to be done in neutral and stopped.
