You have 1750-2000 to spend on lifting your 4runner, what do you buy?

$350 5100s all the way around, OEM Front Coils set to 2.5"
No UCAS (not needed)
$195 1.75" Dobinsons Rear Coils
$1000 Tires

Well....Now I'm even more confused. Even more options to consider now. I guess one of the biggest things is not having to deal with major issues down the road which is why I thought the link in the OP would be best.

Just do what Simpleman74 says. I second his opinion. Get the Bilstein 5100's. Great low cost long lasting non rebuildable shock. It will let you lift and give you a good ride and have money left over.

As far as high speed dirt roads... they make shocks for that but $2K won't touch it.

Slow down go lift your truck and have fun with no worries.

I've always used Old Man Emu setups on my past rigs...and for $1000 their basic 3" lift is hard to beat. The added bonus of being able to pick springs and shocks based upon your load need is a winning combo.

-H-

I'm more practical than showy. If I had $2000 burning a hole in my pocket:
$350 Billy 5100's all around
$450 JBA UCA's
$200 Wheeler T12 rear springs (~+2", same as the old Sway-away springs)
$200 Wheeler T1 front coils (~+2.5" with shocks set at 0)

Spend the remaining $800 on armor or other upgrades.

I'm doing the exact same thing as well. Bilsteins all around with 884 in the front set at zero and sway-a-way rear coils. Puts me at 2" so i'm not going to need UCA. Hopefully... Then with the rest of the money, get a roof rack, armor, recovery gear, etc..

Personally, while most of these setups will all achieve your goals, they do not all ride the same. There isnt a way to prove that one is better than the other as Most people havent installed and driven multiple setups.

My opinion is that with your budget, I would call toytec and order an Ultimate coilover kit and the TC or Icon tubular UCAs. If you have a little extra room the Boss kit IS worth the extra dollars. This kit rides fantastic, is serviceable, all inclusive(one stop shop) and backed by killer customer service. Down the road the height is adjustable in the front if you add a bumper, winch, batteries etc. But for most people its a once and done situation and never think about it again.

Ideally what you described is what I want. Kind of want to be able to set it and forget it. You don't think I'd be able to do that with what I linked in the OP?

Yes you will. The 6112 will give you a larger diameter shock (60 mm) then the Boss kit (not boss performance) which is a 46mm strut, but the Boss front shock is an adjustable coilover. The 6112 sits on a perch and can't be adjusted while on the vehicle. Just be mindful that with the 5160's there have been multiple reports of leaking early in their lifespan and they only have a 90 day warranty. The 6112's are limited lifetime like the 5100's. The Toytec Boss has a 1 year warranty.

If you don't want to deal with potential issues with the 5160's and don't need a remote reservoir the more plug and play IMO, with better warranty would be the 6112's with 5100 rear shocks. Set the 6112's to 2" and get some of the Dobinson rears that Simpleman74 recommended above that are a 1.75" rear spring.

Honestly you I think the Boss Kit or the 6112/5100 setup would fit your needs perfectly, and probably can't go wrong with either choice.

6112 and 5160...

Edit: Make sure you read through the posts in the 6112 actual lift vs. given settings and if it is the new 6112 or 1st set by part number as the 1st gen 6112's give about .5"-.75" more lift then advertised so to get 2" with that version you need to set on the 3rd circlip not 4th.

I think I'd prefer to do what you said with the 6112 and 5100. Question about boss though. Is the performance much better with that setup than the Bilstein setup?

Yes. It is a 60mm adjustable coilover and comes with rear reservoir shocks. They are also fully rebuildable.

But is that something to worry about down the road that could cause a potential headache?

I mean I don't really care about slight issues, nothing is perfect. I just don't feel like dealing with a constant headache since I don't know too much about this stuff.

That I honestly can't answer as it is still to New of a product for their to be many reports on it. I would assume it would have similar maintenance and rebuild time as an icon or fox coilover (about 50-75k miles IIRC depending on how you use them) but I don't know of many vehicles have put that many miles on them since they came out within the past year, so as far as I know the jury is still out on that one.

Is this the one you're talking about?

Ditto on Toytech Boss with UCA's - I have 2016 sr5 on TRD wheels with 285 's. Proper alignment specs, took off front mud laps and no rub. This is my DD, handles great, plush balanced ride , no body roll in turns or nose dive on braking. Very happy with this set up.

That's something I really wanted to reduce with a lift kit. Body roll and nose dive.

Great info, thanks. I'm looking at getting the Boss kit soon. I'm in NOVA and would like to talk w/ you about it, but I'm a noob and can't PM you yet. Can you PM me w/ your contact info? Would greatly appreciate it, thanks!

Minimalist What did you end up with?

Here's what I'm doing.

-Bilstiens all around (front set at 2.5") $370 ((best bang for the buck.))
-Daystar 1.5 spacers for the rear. $36
-Toytec diff drop $27 (Saves your CV boots)
-SPC UCA's $586 (Allows you to get to "Ideal" alignment)

-Spidertrax 1.25 spacers $199 (Optional for wider stance)

Don't forget about tires and wheels!!

17x9 wheels and BFG KM2's 285's $2000

.

Sorry for the delay it's easy for me to miss things. Single dad life here. Noticed this while doing a Google search actually lol. Friggin thing led me to my own past post.

I'm stuck right now and still haven't made a decision. Here are the options so far:

All include 5100's all around.

Where I'm stuck at is:
2.5" Wheelers T1 with 1.5" Wheelers T13?
2" OME 2883 with 1.5" Wheelers T13?
2" OME 2883 with 10mm lift enhancer kit with 2" OME 2895e?

I don't want any rubbing with 275's I plan on getting along with the lift. I don't want UCA's. I want no issues whatsoever with my alignment. The 1st and 3rd leave me a little worried but not sure if I need to be. Still trying to do some research to see if I can get away with 1 and 3. I definitely know one person got away with 3. But 1 person can always be lucky.

minimalist

You repeat "no issues" over and over.

You want no issues?

Stay with 265's (you do not NEED 275/285 etc etc)
4 X Billies
set front at .85 to level.
Get alignment.
Stop.
