You know you're a Third Generation 4Runner owner when...

When you see someone that is clearly not a 4runner enthusiast with hood scoop and you say to yourself, "damn, I bet that person doesn't appreciate that hood."

Whats more funny is when you rubber neck all the stock 4runners with the soccer moms and they look at you confused. Thinking in there heads why would this guy waste the money to do this to his 4runner. LOL.

Whats even worse is when she passes you, you see a 4wd emblem on it.

When you wonder if people think your strange for beating on your dash or gear shift bezel at a red light to stop the vibration.

When you look at your odo and it says 300,000 and look at your 4yr old son and say, this will be yours some day, because you know it will still be running

When you see 220000 on the odometer and you can still hit 95mph to pass the jackass who won't let you over on the freeway.

When it's pedal to the floor at every stop light and highway on-ramp with no adverse affects, just regular maintenance.

Classic! They oughta make a commercial on that one...something like the cool new Miata ad.

When in passing, you make eye contact with other 4Runner drivers to see if they possess the "4Runner awareness" gene. Confirmation is established if they give "the nod" or other knowing look.

Speaking of glances and driving, this all kinda reminds me of an old Billy Collins poem.

REAPER
by Billy Collins from The Trouble with Poetry

As I drove north along a country road
on a bright spring morning
I caught the look of a man on the roadside
who was carrying an enormous scythe on his shoulder.

He was not wearing a long black cloak
with a hood to conceal his skull-
rather a torn white tee-shirt
and a pair of loose khaki trousers.

But still, as I flew past him,
he turned and met my glance
as if I had an appointment in Samarra,
not just the usual lunch at the Raccoon Lodge.

There was no sign I could give him
in that instant-no casual wave,
or thumbs-up, no two-fingered V
that would ease the jolt of fear

whose voltage ran from the ankles
to my scalp-just the glimpse,
the split-second lock of the pupils
like catching the eye of a stranger on a passing train.

And there was nothing to do
but keep driving, turn off the radio,
and notice how white the houses were,
how red the barns, and green the sloping fields.

Anybody else do this a couple times a day?

When you woun't even look at something if the rear hatch window doesn't go down.

People who ride with me are always amazed that the rear window rolls down. And when I go to a luber yard the workers are puzzled about how I plan on carrying wood.... Then roll the back window down and watch their reaction.

You know you own a 4runner when...

All 4 doors fly open and everyone jumps out to see if you've just severely damaged your rig and to everyones surprise....nothing's broken

Can't tell you all how many times this has happened. These trucks take a beating

When you see a wrecked 3rd gen on a flatbed and the only thing you can think of is what parts you can salvage from it.
