You people with LT rear

sup.

i know bimrunner threw cash at luke and got the 2.5" icons with remotes, but what diameter rear shocks are you guys running? also, which one of you guys got heavy rear coils instead of the mediums and what kind of lift did you get out of them?

i have no intention to buy anything Icon as i personally do not like their shocks and i don't have a use for their flat brimmed hat and affliction T-shirts that every suspension comes with. i just sent Metaltech a email asking if i could order them with 2.5" Fox RR emulsion's (read: Race ready non reservoir)

id like to hear your thoughts on body roll from those who came from KDSS equipped vehicles.

if everything pans out the way i hope it does my intentions are a Camburg 3.5" RR LT front with 2.5" Fox RR Rezzies, Metaltech's LT rear Heavy with 2.5" Fox RR Emulsions, Rokmen control arms, and then build Currie Anti-Rock torsion bars for the front and rear. just trying to get a feel for how it will handle, especially being 7" wider overall

Well, I have no use for reservoirs on my shocks, so I just went with the 2.0 Icon extended travel rears, along with the Heavy Duty MT progressive springs and bumpstops. I already had the Metaltech uppers, lowers and track bar installed.
I have a lot of gear in the back, but I'd say these springs give very close to 3" of lift. They handle the load a lot better than my previous AllPro 2" springs and the ride is quite nice, with decent handling going in to corners. That being said, I do still run the rear swaybar with some extended skyjacker links. It's a really nice setup all the way around; glad I did it.
I'll be upgrading soon to some Fox or Icon extended travel coilovers in the front(non-res)with some 650'ish lb springs to help with the handle the extra weight of this plate bumper and winch, since I know that's the primary culprit behind any apparent body roll, not to mention nose dive when braking.

Thanks for chiming in. I don't have use for reservoirs either, except the front with so much additional leverage I don't think the regular shock body could dissipate enough heat fast enough.

Did you have KDSS and switch over to a standard sway bar or were you always non KDSS?

Being that the rear shocks on these 4Runners are already well outboarded, I imagine the more competent nitrogen charged race style shocks would be adept at managing body roll

Sorry I couldn't resist....

What are your thoughts on your setup? I know you're pretty pleased but I can't recall your swaybar or any at all

Whole set up is awesome. No sway bars front or rear so I take it easy on road. It's no race car so no need to drive it as one.

First off, my truck is unique compared to most. I have a custom undercover tube bumper front and rear which adds almost no additional weight. I also run aluminum skids... I need to post pictures of the new setup, but have not had a chance yet.. I also have a custom sway bar in the front that can be quick disconnected.

I've tried many different configurations... on and off road.

I have the medium LT springs. I initially put them on without the extended bump stops and I found some cheap Pro Comp shocks that had good compressed length and decent travel... It worked pretty good but all that up travel caused the rear bumper to drag too much when flexed out on the trails. I added the 2.0 LT Icons with the extended bump stops and it has been a great combo. With the front sway bar on, it handles pretty good on the road, but I also sometimes run a stock rear swaybar with extended links. This works well offroad and fantastic on the road. I'm still undecided if I like having the rear on or off when off-road. It is a mixed bag. I mainly rock crawl... but the truck actually performs great at speed offroad as long as the terrain is not too crazy.

On the road... Here is what I have observed.
1. No swaybars at all - pretty scary with significant body roll
2. Front only - good not much body roll
3. Rear only - tollerable with some body roll
4. Front and rear - very good with almost no body roll

I try to keep the weight down in general... However, I am considering adding some air bags for when I load my moto on a hitch carrier. It sags a bit in that scenario, but overall I feel the med springs are enough.

I'm not trying to brag in any way shape or form, but offroad my truck performs very well. I'm only limited by body damage and the overall size...I'm literally bored on the trails that previously seemed challenging. I'm thinking of going back to running less tire...

I run without swaybars with 700lb springs up front and the metaltech LT HD springs in the rear. I don't feel frightened by the body roll but I can feel it. The spring rate has a ton to do with that. Also the shocks are valved for the spring rates. I have extended travel k. Front and rear 2.5 with resi at both ends. Is it overkill? Probably. :yo: go with fox or King. I don't miss my swaybars. I must be a weirdo.

MT's set up

The rear suspension has a full Metal-tech 4x4 long travel system. The rear lower links are offset of added movement. Both lower and upper links future Currie Racing Jonny Joints for added flexibility. The rear shocks are custom built Radflo 2.5” remote reservoir and matched with Metal-tech 4x4’s expedition rear springs.

I intend to run the Antirocks, I just remember from my Jeeps I had them on that they're on the lighter side. I was hoping the larger rear diameter shocks would assist in the compression dampening and negate the otherwise heavy roll.

You could run ADS shocks too. Downsouth Motorsports sells all of their products.

I've had good luck with Fox's race shocks in the past. They're prevalent around the country and getting parts or service on them would be pretty easy. My buddy max can rebuild a fox coil over in 20 minutes.

Why not a by-pass shock in rear?

I really don't think I need that level of performance, not to mention it would need to be paired with a traditional shock to get the performance out of it that it's capable of.

Is their expedition rear springs something they don't have listed on their website? All I saw was medium and heavy rate LT springs

For some reason I keep expecting to find pictures of Lawrence Taylor's ass when I click on this thread....... :hiding:

In my opinion it does. It isn't negating it 100% but I feel safe. I wouldn't do it with 2.0 shocks or lighter weight springs though.

FWIW, my experimentation indicates most of the body roll in typical driving conditions comes from the front. The rear is obviously at play and it would get worse if you were loaded up top.

I feel like most 5th gens run way more shock than they need.
