I mean I know it only has 13k miles on it, but one, that also means it hasn't been run much and two, it's still an 11 year old vehicle.

i agree with you. ive beenlooking to get another 4runner for almost a year an im still having trouble in my area. i live in cincinnati and its like i find 96-99 4runners with 200+k mikes on them for over $8k. thats just crazy!

With that miles i dont think you can't really put a good range down, but it in my book that would be worth around $18k, but i would never pay that.

It has a locker. If I had some money I would pay close to that. I like our 4runners more than any of the newer versions. How often will you ever find something like this.

I do agree with you that this generation of 4Runner is by far my favorite (well, I would love to have a fully restored 1st gen too), but if I were willing to spend that much on one, I'd find one in amazing condition for far less and do a Hilux diesel swap. :surfer:

Yeah I would say if anyone was in the market to spend $25K on a 4Runner then that one would be better than a 5th generation.

I was having a problem in my area also (Raleigh NC).
Every "decent" 4Runner I saw was not only $8K+ but virtually all of them were rode hard and put away wet.
The last one I looked at prior to the one I bought was $7900, had 130,000 miles but looked like it was left out in Africa with the doors open and let wild animals run through it.
Had crappy wheel and tires, no lift, old battery, dents and scratches, no sun/moon roof.

I just got WAY lucky and got mine for $7,700 and in great shape with basically new everything, plus a 3" OME lift with 883/891 coils, new shocks, new tires new rims, external trans cooler, tundra brake upgrade.

I am just going to put on a pair of rock sliders and do a total fluid change to 100% synthetic and I should be good to go for quite awhile.

$24,000 Wow! That's nuts! I paid $21,000 for my 2000SR5 in 2002 it had 36,000 miles on it.

I would advise against going total synthetic. It will cause more problems then its is worth.

Nonsense, been using it exclusively for 34 years, never had a problem of any kind. In fact exactly the opposite.

Not to hijack the thread, but if you go from dino to synth, the synth can clean out gunk from seals and cause them to start leaking when they weren't before. If you go synth from the start you're probably OK but there have been too many cases of people switching over to synth on high mileage vehicles and their rig starts squirting.

As for the $24K 4Runner, I agree with the statement that it's still an 11 year old vehicle and is priced a bit optimistically. Now if it was a 1995 300ZX Twin Turbo with 13K miles on it, you'd get $24K in a heartbeat...

Your engine would have to be in pretty bad shape already for it to suddenly start leaking because of being "clean".
The "seals" are what needs to be eaten and synthetic is actually good for seals.

he's right if you put synth in your engine and it starts leaking.. its not the oils fault.. your engine already sucked.

I know why it leaks, the cars had alot of miles with conventional oil which was thick enough to fill up any small holes that leak, the sythetic broke down that old oil at the seals and caused minor leaks. I find it easier to run non synthetic, in these vehicles, the jetta on the other hand looks brand new at 260+ k miles with all synthetic.

I agree. I have had leaks come up in rear mains and axle seals directly after fluid changes to synthetic. You won't convince me that it's a myth.
