Hey gang!

Just seeing what you all prefer. I have a Mag Gray 4runner and want to buy some good stuff to detail it. I was thinking about buying the griots kit bc it comes with a orbital buffer, but I came across the Zaino stuff, which people seem to love as well.

The downside about Zaino is that they dont recommend using an orbital buffer. I know one brand is synthetic and one is not, just seeing what you all use. It also seems that Zaino is a bit more intensive than the other products.

I also have magenetic gray. I bought the Griot's kit a couple years ago and love it. You'll be amazed at the shine you get. I've even used their polishes and buffer on my Corian counters and it they look awesome. I should add that a friend of mine switched to Zaino for his jet black Z06, but looking at how much work it was, I'm more than happy to stay with Griot's. You won't regret it.
 
Never used Groit's but I have used Zaino. Zaino is a show car polish and as such, it will tend to highlight any imperfections in the paint. Application of Zaino is a breeze. However, prepping the paint can be extensive if you follow the instructions to maximize the results (and it was expensive enough for me to do just that). I used Zaino on a Miata. I hand polished the car twice, washed with Dawn, claybarred, and washed again. I then applied all of the products (Z1, Z3, Z5, and Z6) and the results were stunning! As nice as the product is, I can honestly say that I would not attempt to use Zaino on my T4R just form the size of the vehicle and the prep required. I'll stick to my random orbital and Meguires.
 
I've used both. First Griots for years then the Zaino stuff. I can speak highly of both but now prefer the Zaino products as they last longer, so less time reapplying and more time for other stuff. You cant beat Griots lifetime guarantee though, so no worries there.

As for the machine buffing, I would say that is more to get a perfect prep job done which will greatly enhance both products end result regardless what the manufacturer says.

Recently switched to the Ultima Car Care products line. I couldn't be happier.
If you think Zaino is easy to use, wait until you try Ultima. You wipe the wax on and walk away..that's it. Entire truck takes me less than 10 minutes to wax.

The shine and durability are incredible too. I won't be using anything else for years.

You can do a lot of great research over at AutoGeekdotcom. These guys are an entire population of OCD car detailers, their product reviews are ridiculously thorough!

Can you be a little more specific on the product you use? 10 min wax job sounds good to me
 
I use these:
Ultima Paint Guard Plus
Ultima Interior Guard Plus
Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus

You'll be hard pressed to find bad reviews about their products. There are a TON of products out there. I like these cause they are easy to use, shine well, protect well and LAST!
 
Not sure what he uses but a 10 wax was job is possible.......after the car has been properly polished which can take 8+ hrs. I don't use any particular line of product for all the processes.

Meguires makes great stuff for the pro and weekend warrior. I use their compounds and polishes

A good long lasting wax is collinite 845. Cheap and can be found at some auto parts stores. I had to order mine. I use Pinnacle liquid Souveran. Adds great depth to dark colors but tends to mute flakes. Expensive and short on protection time (couple wks)

It all depends on how much time you want to spend, using the right product for the job and how good you want the car to look.

If you are a beginner with only hand application available this would be my process:

Wash with good quality car soap. (early morning or in shade
No need to dry, pull into garage or shaded area. I use mothers clay bar next
Next you can either wash it again or get a damp microfiber and a dry one to wipe the residue from the clay process.
Wax of your choice
Reapply wax every couple of months for proper protection.
 
I haven't found anything that compares to klasse. It doesn't give a ton of depth, but my 4r is not a show car. If you need depth, go over the klasse with carnuba. Its a perfect combination. The glass feel after application is amazing.
 
FWIW the PC polisher and Poorboys line is the price: preformance king for detailing IMO

Both Zainos and Griots are good products though.

I love my truck, but you will never, ever, ever see me polishing it for 8 hours.

:lmao: I feel the same way. I've used Zaino in the past on my 4Runner and it's overdue for an application. I've been putting it off due to how long it takes me. So I'm thinking of giving that Ultima stuff a try. I don't really care about the depth of shine, just want to make sure my finish is protected from the sun, birds, etc.

I feel the same way. just want to make it last
 
I'm basically just re-stating what previous posters have said but the bare minimum you can do for protection is wash - claybar - wax. Anything less than that you are inviting surface rust in, and giving it a beer!

Problem with that is that it is nearly impossible to claybar most japanesse cars without very slightly scuffing it (possibly not noticeable on any colour except black) so if that bothers you then you are adding another step of polishing post claybar.

8 hours would be an extreme scenario, I could do a 3 or 4 step polish and wax in 8 hours, and unless you are careless with your paint on a day to day basis you shouldn't need that much polishing, that's for cars that haven't been touched in 10 years!
