COB's 87 4Runner Turbo

I may be bringing home another truck soon. Been sitting the better part of 10 years. 1988 Pickup 4x4, 22RE 5-spd... AKA 5 speed swap.

Not an R151.... yet. Anything but this damned Auto. I'll redrill the bolt pattern on the diffs to have both turbo and 4 cyl patterns.

Then I want to chop the frame in two and turn the bed into a trailer. It will be painted red with matching gold decals and SR5 wheels.

Some thin gasket that cracked when it was moved. I don't think it's made of teflon.

I'll be ordering some teflon ones, actually.
 
I grabbed a set of those seat covers off Ebay - those are about worth exactly every penny, huh?

Which is fine, they'll do what they're supposed to and for the price of a set of Okoles I can afford to replace these every year for a while. :D
 
this thing is so ugly. do yourself a favor and give it to me. who wants to drive around a truck that looks as horrible as this? :lol:

I have been wanting to buy a carpet for my 3rd gen for a while now. The day I do that, probably just order both. Not really a huge priority, for that amount of money, I mean. We'll see how things go.

Hell yeah! We can buy 6 sets of front and rear and still have money left over!

Rented another u-haul tow dolly. Goes to show that even a supercharged 2.7 can haul something if it needs to.

Say hello to my little friend! 1988 Pickup Xtra Cab, 22RE 5spd... AKA Donor Truck 2.0. Runs and drives!

Please give me some time to get things squared away... I'll entertain part out requests in the near future!

It spent the last 10 years sitting under a 17 foot cover, also under a car cover. No sun meant no cracks in the tires, and overall a good shape.

It does not run all too great, but the engine isn't what I want it for. The transmission and transfer case are in functioning order :) Lucky for me, it has a brand new clutch included

Cool find. I wish I could find a rust free 1988 Xtracab in NJ. That thing seems a little too nice to call a donor.

I just read through this thread, very cool truck. I love the old school digital gauges, but I definitely get the sentiment on the red interior...

Good work bringing it back to life. The KM2's look great, btw.

Not mint for the west coast I'm sure but in any place with rough winters that thing would be considered to be in fantastic shape for 26 years old. I actually saw one in that exact color at a fuel station that was used as a plow truck... there wasn't much left of it.

So do you prefer the stockers I had before or these?

The donor has no title. It could be registered again with a statement of fact and all that crap, but the truck doesn't seem worth it to me... certainly not when I have another that's already working.

The negatives of the truck aside from having no title: interior is trashed, the driver's window is busted, the 22RE has rod knock, ignition switch is busted, and there's some passenger side fender/door damage.

Don't get me wrong... I feel bad for having to decimate another Toyota, but the price and the parts inside were too good a deal to pass up.

Too bad you're so far away, I'd cut you a deal for the rest if you were closer. The useful parts will live on in other trucks, which is at least better than sitting untouched for more years.

I guess it had more issues than I thought. And very true. I'm looking forward to seeing the turbo 4Runner getting the 5-speed! The 33's look good but I prefer the 5-stars. I guess I prefer skinnier tires.

Just wondering... I thought that N/A 22RE trucks had a W(56?) series transmissions while the Turbo's got the R151 since it is stronger. If what you have is the W56, do you think it will hold up?
