Did my skid plate install...seems like the tranny is a little louder than before, did you notice the same thing? Here are my pics of the install. Not entirely sure as to why they're upside down...will have to post new pics tomorrow.

A few months ago I installed driver and passenger side overhead FJ style grab handles as described in this thread, instead of the OEM flimsy folding ones.

It’s a great mod and I really liked them because they are very solid, sturdy and look good. But since I have my seat adjusted as high as possible I’ve bumped my head on the handle several times while getting in or turning to look out the window.
So I’m trying out a softer solution. I made a paracord grab handle for the driver side using a piece of a high-strength 3/4 inch wide rock climbing sling. I installed brass grommets on each end and weaved around it with a king cobra knot. It’s strong enough to hold my weight and stiff enough to hold its handle shape when not in use. So far it’s working well and no more bumped head!

Drove the Old Coast Road from Bixby Bridge area into Big Sur with my wife (technically our unborn son was with us, my wife’s 27 weeks pregnant).
I bought my truck about a year ago and have had only one other occasion to get it out on a trail (down to the Yuba river), but it’s really exciting to see how much fun my wife has on trips like this. Stopped about half way and just sat around in nature and snacked on fruit and things, took it easy, nothing better.

It's installed wrong. The transmission and transfer case skid should sit flat with each other. You installed the crossmember support brackets between the two which is why there is such a big gap. It should go transmission skid --> transfer case skid --> crossmember brackets. Probably the answer to your noise.

Speaking of skid plates - I banged the hell outta mine this weekend. The boat launch at Takhlakh Lake was hella busy and I was more watching the 13 cars all moving around me and less looking at the *GIANT* rock directly in my path. I managed to high center myself on it and had to have a friendly camper give me a yank. I sure felt like a pretty big idiot. The 20 people standing around watching were pretty impressed with the lack of damage - any other car there would have lost a bumper and cracked an oil pan.
I'm slightly concerned the new bump in the front skid is going to interfere with the KDSS sway bar. It seemed to ride fine on the highway. I may have to pull that front skid and beat that hump out or, alternatively, pick up those RCIs I've been eyeing. Oh Darn!

Ok, so I did a thing this weekend. I bought a T8 Android headunit from a forum member (PatrickBateman) for a price that I couldn't pass up even if the thing was pure junk. I am happy to report that I am absolutely thrilled with the headunit!!!
There are a plenty of people that had negative experiences with these or scoffed at the hardware limitations. I, however, use my headunit as, well, a headunit. It handles anything I would do (listen to the radio, play Pandora, Bluetooth audio from phone, GPS, and even watch movies). I cant imagine 32Gigs of internal storage plus the ability to feed from the usb another 500Gigs being deemed inadequate for really anyone but whatever. I don't multitask on my headunit beyond audio and GPS and 2Gigs of RAM is more than adequate. I have stored 8Gigs of music and a couple movies just for kicks.
I like that I can change the background wallpaper to that of my choosing and download other apps that might be occasional fun, like TorquePro. This particular frame is matte black which I am also very happy about since IM not a fan of that painted silver nonsense everywhere.
I do have a few qualms, albeit minor but annoying. I cannot FOR THE LIFE OF ME figure out how to get my music files to play in the default radio player(pink music note)!! Not sure where to save them so they will be viewable by the player. I had to download an app to play them. Secondly, the units do not have an accelerometer so neat functions in Torque like pitch/roll, which would be fun offroad, don't work. Expandable storage via SD card would be nice in lieu of using the USB port. Apparently the mic(internal and external) are junk for voice calls but I never use that function anyway.
I didn't bother taking pics of the install since its very plug and play and well documented already on Trail4Runner.com. Safe to say it was just as easy you've heard. All in all I can completely satisfied with this project and its capabilities and certainly the aesthetic aspects of the new unit.

I know that rock! Good to see damage is minimal.
Takhlakh has become so busy on the weekends anymore that I generally try to get in during weekdays. I was just up at Takhlakh and Horeshoe lakes a couple weeks ago.

Nice! It was insane this weekend. We ended up doing some dispersed camping, since every site we found was full. This was my first time in the Cispus Valley - I usually do most of my camping north of Rainier off of Hwy 410 or over in the Olympics, which, while busy, are nothing like what we saw at Takhlakh this weekend.

So, some may like it..others may not...and that’s cool but I absolutely think it looks awesome and should have come from the factory this way! Swapped my Limited flat hood with someone for the scoop!! And please do not scold me on the glare..I had a Tacoma TRD Sport with the scoop and really liked it despite what little glare I experienced.

Finally got the ICON/SCS-F5/KO2 trifecta installed on the rig by the awesome crew over at Jimahajer.(Great shop if you’re anywhere near La Habra) I absolutely love this setup! It’s nice and firm and yet it devours stuff I used to slow down for. And almost zero lateral sway either, even with slalom. I can’t wait to get it out on the trail and put it through the paces. Next is the Expedition One dual swing booty cover. That should happen in the next month or so and then I can get that smelly spare out of the back .
