Hey Runners,

I've gotta replace some of the bulbs in my HVAC cluster. The local dealer wants $9 per bulb to special order them, and the mail order places are more reasonably priced but they're wanting $12 to ship. These dollars won't make or break me but there's some principle involved.

Does anyone know who makes these bulbs? They've gotta be outsourced from somewhere, I might as well just try and eliminate the middleman.

Alternatively, do we have a preferred parts vendor who would be willing to ship these tiny parts more reasonably? I'd much rather support a vendor who sponsors the site if I had the choice.

ebay has them, buy in bulk since half of the time they die out early, i learned it when i did my girl's 2011 camry, the ebay shit just dont last as long, but its cheap when you buy it in bulk, 15 should be enough to have few extras left over, now if you want quality, superbrightleds.com has it all, buy a few extra incase, like all leds, some fail. autolumination is also another place to get leds.
 
My Ebay ones haven't failed me yet. I've only had one door 194 LED that has failed me over the years. Ebay is also cheap enough to buy bulk and do other cars if you have multiples.

The only bulbs to look out for are for the LCD screen. You'll need to find a lower power LED bulb or source a 12v power.
 
What about the old-style incandescents? I dont want to have one panel LED and the rest yellow/orange, and i dont have the tine to pull apart the whole dash and replace everything.

Although maybe I'll wish i did later. Hmmm.
 
Instead of buying the complete bulb and holder you can buy just the bulbs (part # 2721092) at Radio Shack and remove the old bulb/s from the holder/s and replace it with the new bulb from Radio Shack.

Here's the bulbs you need to do this.. 2 for a couple of bucks.

Look on thiis link for photos showing how to remove and replace the bulbs, post # 13, the holders are a different size but the process is the same for the ones you're doing.

You know, Ive seen those posts about the radio shack bulbs, but to be honest I was a little hesitant to go that route. However quite a few people seem happy with the results, so maybe I'll give it a whirl.

My last car was an Infiniti, and I went through the same issues with small bulbs. I did try going the radio shack bulb route, however they gave off an orangy-yellow light conpared to the pure white light the oems gave off. This was because of a blue plastic sleeve though.

Other than aesthetics, are there any benefits found by switching from oem to LED all around? I'd imagine slightly lower (even measurable?) power consumption if I did ALL the bulbs.

Wow, 100 bulbs, yes I would say they should last a while, like forever and a day!!

I think you should send a couple to your favorite forum members when you send them their Christmas or Birthday cards :love:!!
 
Followup:

I bought a box of ten #7219's from amazon as suggested.

They worked PERFECTLY.

If I may recommend for sanity -- when you go in to replace a few bad ones, just go ahead and swap them all out. I ended up having to redo it all. The new bulbs were significantly brighter which was annoying, and then one of the old ones burnt out the same week.
