Dog Barrier Recommendations
Just curious if other T4R owners had any suggestions/recommendations for a dog barrier that would keep my pup in the back versus deciding to come up front? I have one but it was given to me and isnt very effective (comes loose, rattles, marks up the head liner etc) so - anyone found something that works?
thanks in advance

Just a thought, and I'm not trying to be a wise ass, but you could train your dog to stay where you put him. It really doesn't take long and will be much easier to live with than a barrier. If you aren't sure how to do it, a pro dog trainer should be able to teach both you and your dog in a couple of sessions, then you just have to follow through.
Feel free to disregard. Sorry, I don't have any info on a good barrier.

I agree on the training, but training won't keep your pooch contained in the rear in the event of an accident. I'm using a raingler cargo net strung across the back and attached to the plastic trim above the windows. I'm not a fan of how it looks so I'll switch it up soon. Someone posted one that attaches to the the rear headrests and doesn't touch the headliner at all. Not sure if it rattles or not. When I get back to a computer I'll try and search it out.

Have you considered a crate, that's how I roll. It ensures the hound is secure, as are my passengers if there's an accident, and allows me to pack a lot more gear in there when camping/skiing, etc., and it's very easy to remove and use at other locations (again, such as camping).

as far as training goes...thats all well and good - hes actually fine in the back when we are driving but its if I get out do I come back and hes in my seat...im sure there re people who could train him to stay in the back but for the money and effort i could just use a barrier...
as far as the crate suggestion...one of the reasons I bought the T4R was for the rear window so he could enjoy it being down...crating him back there is a bit counter productive to that...and I'm not sure entirely how the addition of a crate affords you the space for a lot more camping/skiing gear...seems like it would occupy quite a bit of space

Do you happen to have a photo of this? I think I may have the same barrier, but I can't envision how you used the 1" pipe insulation. I assume it was against the roof to prevent maring the headliner?

This is what I'm using for now...
Nature's Miracle™ AdvancedSingle Door Port-A-Crate - Dog - Sale - PetSmart
Strapped down in the back, pretty well ventilated being mostly mesh. Folds down mostly flat when not in use, keeps the bulk of the pet hair contained. I'm sill looking for something more secure, but this works for now.
This one is Joey, in his crate, giving me stink-eye.

I had the same issue with my dog. I went through 3 barriers and he'd always find a way to barge or wiggle his way through it. I just started to leash him in the back. There is a small loop in the corner near the bumper. I hook his leash through there and give him some slack. He's to the point now where I can just put the leash on him and he thinks it attached so he stays put. Maybe try that?

I've thought about the Raingler net but have never seen a T4R installation. Do you have any pictures of your install?

I have a dog barrier that I picked up off the internet somewhere, it's tension based but has suction cups at the top and bottom to disperse the pressure so it doesn't mar up your headliner. I don't use it anymore because I switched to a two crate set up and the fact that my 18 month old German Shorthair figured out just how to pull it down when I'm not in the car (he also knows how to open his crate from the inside). It's definitely solid, I'll probably sell it since I don't use it anymore, just have to find a box to put it in for shipping, PM me if you're interested and I'll try and get a pic of it in the 4R to give a better idea of how it looks.
I tried that one from PetSmart, and returned it because it had no top support, but didn't think of the pipe insulation to prevent marring at the time, nice idea.

Do you think raingler could make a net for the back window for my pups? Something like a Nascar window.

we don't have kids, except for our two dogs. so we travel with back seats down. we use a tied-down crate for the smaller dog (45lbs) and the bigger dog (75lbs) travels outside the crate, but we have this on the FRONT seat headrests.
