I never had anything useful to place in the small storage slot until recently. I purchased a OLIGHT S1R 900 lumen rechargeable flashlight for daily carry. Other than not having a rear clicky and having a few too many modes it's a fantastic flashlight and it's CRAZY bright. Picked it up off amazon for $65.00 and carry it every day. But when I'm traveling I had no easy way to charge and I HATE loose cables.
So I ordered an extra desktop charger for home use, cut a small hole in the center console cup holder then epoxied the charger it came with into place. I did have to massage the passengers side a little heat gun to make the draw smooth. Now my light drops right onto the magnetic charger and charges while I'm on the go.
For power I plugged it into a USB splitter I previously installed behind the center console instrument cluster. It's ignition hot with a manual override. I installed it for my hard wired iPhone charging cables and my Garmin GPS as I hate the onboard GPS and like to keep my phone free.
