I don't see where you are getting this $500 oem part cost? The rear valance is between 127 and 139 and the front is 159 to 180.

Basically pulling it out of my ass because I couldn't remember what the totals were between the grille garnish, upper grille, lower valance and rear valance. I just know the valances were more expensive than $30 and likely more expensive than a respray of the silver ones. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
By the way, I'm not saying one option is more superior than the other. I don't really care how other people do their vehicles. I'm just saying, if done correctly, the cheaper option, in this case, isn't necessarily worse quality than OEM. That doesn't hold true for plastidip though.

good call. I paid $165 and $128. I threw in some (cheap, oem) front and rear swaybar bushings and $3 oil filters since I was making the order.
this was after a failed delivery of 6 cans of SEM automotive trim paint. Once I saw how cheap the parts were, I just went for it.

2 Cans on plastidip is enough to apply 5-6 coats to the front and rear valance pieces. If you dont like it just peel it off and try again or go another route. I did mine almost a year ago and has held up well to dirt, dust and 20-30 commercial car washes

I've always had a strong dislike for the silver trim pieces on 4Runners and any other vehicle that is so commonplace. I much prefer the color-matched look on any color. I had my pieces painted at a body shop nearby within a couple weeks of getting my 2017 last year. I was exploring the possibility of trading SR5 bumper covers with someone, but ended up going this route. The SR5 covers would be ideal for me as this valance piece sticks out more and will be prone to ripping off. We'll see how long they last.
Also available in matching natural earth tones:
I'm trying to do the exact opposite on an SR5 to break up so much of the same color lol. Wish the SR5's could have those valances install as a compatible part.

I chose to vinyl wrap mine with 3M 1080 film. It was fun learning to work the wrap. I pulled the pieces off the bumper so i could roll the edges over and make it look the best i could.
Now that i love the look I'm going to upgrade to the PRO pieces and grill. I do a lot of highway driving and I’ve managed to get some rock chips on the vinyl that have shown through silver.
There is just something about having an OEM piece instead of wrap or PD.

Well after my ranting about rattle cans and plastic dip, they do have their place. As does wrapping. I was just in a pissy mood I guess. I like the wraps cus it is easy peasy to remove and change color, shape etc etc. Although not completely true, I consider paint a more perm solution. With wrapping I can try things out for a while....which I might just do.

I was about to say the same thing. I went with plastidip for the reason that it's removeable if you don't like it, but it's also easy to reapply if you scrape it when wheeling. On the front I also wanted to cover up the license plate holes, so I filled them with body filler and sanded everything smooth then applied 4 or 5 coats. Honestly the worst part was just masking off the area before spraying it. Also having a black 4R, I thought the contrast looked cool with the matte black finishof the plastidip vs. the TRDP valences which have more of a semi-gloss finish.

I laughed when I saw the price of a pair...made me wonder if the TRD Pro Grill maker also makes bumper plugs?
On my 1999 Mustang GT I had a few years ago, I removed the spoiler which left like six holes in the trunk lid. I bought some little plastic plugs that were the right size from Home Depot, bought a tiny container of touch-up paint mixed by an automotive paint shop (probably cost like $5) and silicone sealed them into the holes. Couldn't really even tell they were there and that was with red paint. You could easily do something similar with the license plate holes and if it's black or silver, it'd be even less noticeable.

Yea the price is a bit much BUT the color match is spot on. That's what you are paying for.
Like brtnstrns said, I've heard of people just painting black plugs from Home Depot. They are basically the same thing.

Bringing this thread back from the dead to ask a question. My SR5 does not have any valances installed currently. If I ordered the parts I would have to drill holes for install? Take it to the dealer to install? Kind of surprised these don't have 3M tape and stick on.
Might be out of luck here as the dealer might charge a few hundred for install. Thanks in advance for the help.

This is an easy DIY.
1) Remove your front and rear bumper
2) Cut out the oval outlines on the back side of the bumpers with a rotary tool
3) Place the valances over the bumpers and clip into place.
4) Reinstall your bumpers and have a beer
I'm a bit late to the party here, but I just bought the TRD Pro pieces and swapped them out. Sold the silver valances to make back a few of the dollars. I'm a huge fan of DIY solutions, but the cost to do this mod with OEM parts is ridiculously low and its a really easy install.
