04 4runner vs 05 4runner

I am in the market to buy a used 4runner. I saw a good deal on an '04 version but I just read that the 05 version was upgraded to a 5spd automatic versus the 04's 4 Speed automatic. I just want to know if I will regret not paying more for the 05's 5speed tranny.

your thoughts, advice and comments are appreciated.

You might see a slight speed increase, but I believe the overall fuel economy was better with the 4spd. Honestly, I don't think you would notice a significant difference between 4 and 5 spds. The 4spd tranny was used in the Land Cruiser for many, many years, the 5spd was introduced in the Lexus and carried over to the V8 4runner in 2003.

Interesting! This helps me.

Thanks alot

You'll notice very little difference in gas mileage. The 2003-2004 V6 2WD's were rated at 21 highway while the 2005 V6 2WD's were rated at 22 highway. So it's not a big difference. I have the 4 speed and my uncle has the 5 speed and you really can't tell much difference.

What about the new limited slip differential in the '05s ?

Is that something I should pay more for to get an 05 versus an 04?

No changes from '04 to '05.

In fact, other than the V6 engine getting the 5-speed automatic, nothing drivetrain related was changed.

You will probably be equally happy with either year.
