06-09 LED headlight bulbs. MUST TRY list

I installed them today, and tried them a bit this evening. Definitely brighter and whiter. Can’t wait to try them on some really dark roads. I didn’t have a chance to really see what they can do unfortunately because of time constraints, but I did notice that my cutoff appears a bit too low, so I’ll have to check/adjust that. I also noticed that my fogs look crappy, yellow and dim now! Guess I’ll have to convert those too now...:bounce:

I too have cougar motors LEDs, and while theyre better than incandescent, there's definitely some room for improvement.

Just got them installed and tested. Significantly brighter. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them over the cougar motor LED's.

When you look at the bulbs on Amazon, you will see at the right side there is a field where it says bulb size, or type (can’t remember). Click that and use the pull down to select the appropriate number for the other bulbs you need. For example, I wanted the 9006 fog bulbs, and found them there. I may eventually get the high beams too, but the lows and fogs are my priority since they are the most used. I’ve had to use the highs on poorly lit highways and backroads though due to the poor lighting of the stock low beams, which is why I’m upgrading those, but the highs seem to work just fine for my use at this time. Not saying I won’t convert them, just didn’t want to drop $100 on bulbs all at once, especially since I want to do the DRLs too.

Ok the headlights work great, but I noticed my fogs do shine scattered light and some of it up high. So I would not recommend driving with fog lights on while driving behind other vehicles.

Yep. As I described earlier, I only use the fogs when absolutely necessary. They are basically high beams now.

What year is your truck? Mine is an ‘04 with the projector type fogs, so I was hoping they’d be fine with the projectors. I believe that the ‘06+ went back to reflector type fogs, correct?

I just got the lows and highs for my 08 4Runner. I can only compare them to the basic Sylvanias I have been using but I am impressed with light output. If they last at least a year, I will be very happy with them.

I got the 9005 high-beams yesterday. Both the bulbs and plugs were tougher than expected to get seated but the output is impressive. Look forward to road testing them and will post an update.

I have a 06' so the fogs will probably output light better with your projector style

I actually rolled the dice and ordered them anyway. They work very well with the projector fogs! Of course now, the high beams look stupid because they are so yellow in comparison, that I’m going to do those too now. Also did the amber DRL/turn bulbs and they work and look awesome as well. A lot of money for all these bulbs but I’m very pleased with the results so far!

Ambient temp shown at time of testing the DRL temps. 5 mins was not significantly higher so waited 10 mins to show 10 deg elevation. Bulb back is cold to the touch at 10 mins constant on.

Needless to say, not concerned whatsoever. Will post when they burn out as promised.

Temps of the headlight lens were at ambient both at 5 mins and 10 mins while testing the DRL’s. No change in lens temp. Again, not concerned whatsoever. You folks want to wait a year or two before these bulbs blow out be my guest. Will update when they blow out.

Not sure if you had this problem, but my original sockets were burned by the heat from the halogen bulbs, so I don’t expect these to be any worse than that. Even the sockets I had replaced maybe 8 months ago,were already showing signs of heat (turning brown) when I took them out to install the LEDs. I’ll be keeping an eye on them, but halogens get super hot, and since those fit into a small, shallow part of the headlight, there isn’t much air space around them which is probably why you could feel the heat. Did you ever try to feel them prior to changing the bulbs? I didn’t, but chances are good they were just as hot, if not worse.

I got LED lights for all the head lights. Only thing I don't like is the fog light isn't bright enough. I might do some sanding on the fog light assembly as it does kind of look a bit fogged out.

Hey, I tend to be overcautious, no question. But my experience has been that product warnings range from strictly a legal CYA on one end to where the item will cause serious damage if the warning isn't followed on the other. Using these as DRLs is very likely toward the CYA end but that remains to be seen.

I really appreciate your time and effort in taking the temps. What we don't know is what those temps will be when someone's on a road trip and the DRLs are on for 10-12 hours straight except for brief stops. I'll be interested to see how these do over time and will definitely be getting them if they don't cause you any problems.

Agree. You've been great about answering questions and getting the temps and so on and that is much appreciated.

My gut feeling is that these will work fine and I'll end up getting them and wishing I had done it earlier. :doh:
