06 Grill mod/painted and SAM mod

Hella old thread, but thanks for the idea. I wasn't going near the bumper, though...
(Sorry about the crappy iPhone pic)

2006+ Grill on a 2003-2005

06 Mod, the mod of 10,000 fails. Another member was nice enough to donate his old grill to me for only the cost of shipping, so a HUGE thanks to him. This was hard because I didn't have any measurements, I just kept going at it, and now I have some slight gouges on my bumper from trying to get it down. Sucks but not really noticeable. This mod required a TON of modification to the grill, and although I tried to avoid it, to the bumper as well. The bumper modification will be completely unnoticeable if I install the old lower grill again, so in a sense, its reversible.

The bottom of the grill required a LOT taken off, and I didn't like that, but I think it still works. The secondary latch doesn't fit, where you stick your fingers under to open the hood after its been popped doesn't fit, as the 06 requires a longer one. Its 50 bucks, but I'm going to try and fabricate my own because the latch is still good, I just need a longer piece that connects the 2 main pieces.

I'm not sure I like it, the black, but it makes a good segway into a color keyed grill later. Thoughts???

And my SAM mod. This mod was easier than the grill mod by far. Some slight modifications to the roof and electrical system. Also I have to be in park or 4-Lo to launch this sucker. It does eat up my MPG's, but I feel the added security against aerial threats offsets the added weight.

Hey simple,

Can you possibly send me the measurements for cutting the grill? I already installed the Grill on my 04 but I force the hood close and in the long run that's not good. Let me know how many millimeters u had to cut from the grill.
Regarding the bumper, I have already cut from it to allow the maneuver for the latch release.
I also bought a new latch release for 06-09 in order to work the release "naturally".

Thanks for you help.

8 years later?????????

As a new member, yeah, obviously. who doesnt wish that threads would retain their images so they stay a useful reference for many years?

I understand that stuff happens, people delete photos or delete accounts, and image hosting sites close up shop, but it is a little frustrating when a thread you're interested in has no pictures anymore.

It's part of the reason that I try not to embed photos anywhere if an upload option exists.

If you did the SAM mod correctly,
you could have mounted the missle permanently on the roof.
This would drastically improve your 0 - 60 rating.
Just make sure the passing lane is free and clear for a couple of miles.
