Thanks. Center caps are collecting dust in my shed...I've been thinking about painting them. Time will tell.

I swear, half the time was spent figuring out how to jack it up. Can't use a floor jack on a gravel driveway, so I used a 12 ton bottle jack. The logistics were a nightmare...

Sike. I plasti-dipped them and put them back on. Looks a little better I think:

I changed out my spark plugs in an effort to up my gas mileage. The old ones (85,000 mi) didn't look bad at all. That's expected with the 120k mi change interval:

I was able to change them without removing the whole airbox by using different wobble extensions (only had to remove the top part). The hardest part was getting the wiring harnesses to unclip from the coils, which was still a breeze.

One thing I noticed which was very unsettling was this:

It's obviously been like this for a LONG time, possibly the entire life of the vehicle. I've never removed this portion of the intake before, I know Carmax didn't, and I know the previous owner wouldn't have. The throttle body was spotless but who knows what could have gotten in through this gap.

I used some C-clamps to "re-mold" the rubber back into place and it fit up nicely...shouldn't be an issue.

Anyways, it runs much more smoothly with a slight increase in mileage after the spark plug change and intake fix.

Next up will be cleaning or replacing the PCV.

bensanders, my T4R looks your twin. SE, black leather, Plasti dip n all (yes with TX plates )except it doesn't have spoiler and I added bull bar. Your looks great. That size BFG is what I have in mind with my Cornfed 3/2. I still have plenty of thread left on my 265/65 BFG LT.

Wow, we really have similar tastes. I'm usually not a fan of bull bars and nerf bars/running boards but yours looks great. Go for the 275/70/17s....you'll love em!

Today was productive. I finished the rear (gained 2" over DS spacers!), removed all XREAS components, and removed the right CO.

Hopefully tomorrow we'll knock out the new UCA and CO install. I'll get some pics up when everything's all finished.


Sliders should be here Wednesday, ordering RCI skids tomorrow...

RCI Full Skids and a Rola Rack are on their way. I'm planning on making some custom mounts so the rack sits lower.

Here is my backcountry fuel solution. 12gal marine fuel tank like the kind you see in jon boats, etc. It's rigid, has strap locations built in, is made to sit in the sun all day, has a fuel sight-gauge built in, and is low profile (11" tall). You can fill it while its strapped to the roof and then siphon gas straight into the gas tank, no lifting required. It's even says "Scepter" on it like the Jerry cans we all use. I honestly don't know why this isn't more popular...

Here are some truck photos. I did the suspension install myself and it was a breeze. I only had to pay my mechanic $70 to have my sliders welded on.

That marine fuel tank idea is sweet. Gonna look into one of those. I'm going to order some RCI skids in the near future. Can you put up some pics when you get yours on? Thanks. I'm not sure that any of the pics I've seen on their site or this forum show the skids on a V8.

I got the fuel tank idea from The Blue Room (FJC forum). Do a search over there and you'll find some good stuff.

Here's a few pics of the front skid. I haven't painted the other skids yet, and I won't even install them until I actually go wheeling. These things are extremely beefy...too heavy for me to roll with as a DD.

Notice the aluminum spacers. I had to supply these because the skid conflicted with some sort of bracket up front. I'll be contacting Josh at RCI about this.

Here you can see that the skids hang tight to the body, yet still allow for the diff drop to be installed should you decide to go that route.

Rear of front skid. Here you can see the nylon spacers that RCI provides. He doesn't mention these at all in the installation instructions, so I'm not sure whether these were meant for the front or rear. They fit perfectly in the gap between the frame and skid in this photo, so I put them here.

Josh at RCI was a pleasure to work with and despite the spacer issue I'm very pleased with my order. I'll post back with what he says about that, and I'll get some more pictures of the others when they are painted and installed.

rola rack mods

Hey Ben very nice 4r man not to much stuff , but enough to get you there & back ! When you make your adapters for your rola show us some pics , been trying to do same thing , guy over on 120 was but can't get ahold anymore thanks again very nice !!

Thanks. Minimalism is the idea...trying to keep her light and nimble.

I'm actually OK with how the Rola Rack looks on top of the factory crossbars. I probably won't get around to making brackets for awhile, especially since I take my rack off a lot for my kayak:

Actually guy over on 120 Kevin@ Armortech was doing some but since been bought out by 4xinnovations Ark was trying to get some too , oh well not a pressing matter . RCI Skids

Thanks for the pics! That's exactly what I was looking for. I was curious about how it looked without the bling skid (2003-2009 4Runner). Maybe that's why you needed those spacers up front. I'm curious what RCI says about it. Thanks for your help.
On another note, your rig looks great. I like the dark gray/black look.

Thanks. The gas tank doesn't take up too much room. The footprint is only 24" x 18".



Anyways, I installed some longer end links in the rear, the old ones were shot. Install thread from 120 here.

Also, Sears was having a big sale and I couldn't help myself.
