1 week old and a F****ng Rock chip

OK I have had my 2012 LE for just over a week and while driving home from work the other day I see a bouncing rock on the freeway heading towards my passenger door, it was too busy to make a lane change and to cut a long story short "Ding" and 1/2 inch scratch on my Shoreline Blue LE's passenger door just under the handle.
1.) Shall I get it fixed with paint you can dab on from the Toyota store?
2.). Pay a fortune and get in done by a pro.?
3.) Live with it and be done with it?

I vote 3, but then again I put redneck pinstripes and dented the crap out of my skids within a week of purchase
 
If you have "Comprehensive" coverage on your policy, this should be covered as a "flying object". Depending on the amount of your deductible if you have one, might want to look at getting it repaired professionally. Good luck and be safe.
 
If you get it fixed you will probably get another one after that one is fixed. Don't curse your vehicle. You have officially added some character to your vehicle. If there was an identical 4R parked next to yours that little scratch could be your identifier!
 
Yeah, the first one hurts! I went offroad and put a scratch on the side from front to back. That's what happens. Be careful, prep and try to touch yours up. You can always have a pro do it if it doesn't turn out very good. At least it is on the other side and you don't have to look at it everytime you walk up to it. Good luck
 
I would not use the Toyota paint stick.. Dr Color Chip is a little more money, but way better results. JMTC

Same happened to me my first week. It doesn't help that the new laws require thinner, crappier paint.

It's a truck. Mine has a few dings and scratches now but I just don't give a fluck. Adds character.
 
First one sucks, but it builds character. Get some touch up paint and deal with it IMO. My truck has these all over from wheeling and camping, but to each their own I suppose.
 
I say touch it up with paint, let it cure for a few days depending on your temp and then wet sand it with 1500-2000 grit then buff it out and it will disappear.
 
Get some touch up paint and call it a day. I bout some when I got the truck its a natural thing get used to it.
 
#2 but only because it is brand new.
I just touch up now it looks great for a 7 year old vehicle, character as they say.

4Runners are magnets for rocks and stones..
I just say that because I have seen more stones hit my windshield and more chips off the front that any other car I have owned
 
I've had good luck with the Toy touch up paint. After it dries I also use some clear nail polish as clear coat.

The real answer is what kind of person you are. Some wash / wax weekly and dust in between. Me? I don't so much mind life's wrinkles and grey hair.

Maybe touch up for now and after a year or two get it done by a pro along with the new dings you will get?
 
characted my azz, its a truck it can`t have character, fix it, try paintlesss repair first then small touchup can be done at any body shopcouple hundreds will get it done.
 
Thanks for all your replies, I'm going to live with it for a few weeks to see if it really bugs the S**t out of me, it is on the passenger side which is a good thing, only I see it every morning in the garage when I take the dogs out.
If I can match the color I may do a touch up, it's right down to the metal so who knows, thin ass paint though .
 
I feel your pain. After owning mine for a month I got caught in a hail storm - got that fixed. Then a few months later I was opening my door and wind caught it and slammed it into a parked cars side mirror. I would not have cared except it cracked the clear coat down to the metal. That was an expensive fix! I didnt want to risk rust. They at least buffed out all all my scratches from 4wheelin for free :)
