'12 LE drivetrain "Thump"

OK I am going in for my 20,000 mile service tomorrow usual stuff, change oil,oil filter, rotate tires, check fluids blah blah blah.
However recently I have been "Feeling" a slight drivetrain clunk, thump!!!

Let me try to explain:
While driving along and I get off the gas I can feel the car slow down (and in this car it almost feels like it's engine braking, which I assume is due to the All Wheel Drive). When I get on the gas I can slight "feel" a clank, or a thump almost like it's the transmission engaging, now when I say I feel it, I can feel it in the seat and accelerator pedal.

Anyone out there with a LE or not have any idea what this is?
Is this normal and just the transmission getting back in gear????

I am thinking of mentioning it to the service guy tomorrow just so I have a note on my paperwork stating the fact.

Would that be covered under the 20,000 service?

I just spoke to my service guy and he said the same thing I need to grease the Slipyoke on the rear driveshaft. Philsey thanks for the input. On mine it happens in every gear.

Greasing should be done every oil change except in harsh, dusty or wet environments. The frequency should then increase according to conditions.

I have re-greased after 50 miles on some of my previous trips lol. If you go 50 miles through mud and water chances are the grease will be washed out very fast.

Just remember that 10K miles is the longest you should go before greasing and you will be OK.

Not sure if it is covered, but it would be much faster and easier to DIY. Go get a grease gun (not a mini) and some grease, crawl under, clean off zerk fittings, and grease them. 6 total, 3 per drive shaft. Only takes a few minutes, most of which is moving vehicle back/forth to get them lined up for easy access.
 
Thanks for all your help guys....I just finished my 20,000 mile complimentary service and they did re-grease the slipyoke for free, however he said there was a TSB to replace the driveshaft on my LE.
I'm not sure of the TSB number, but once I get it replaced I will post up here.

BTW the greasing of the Slipyoke did not fix the problem, it slip thunks when going from coasting to pressing the accelerator.

Yikes. I'll have to keep my eyes on that then.
 
I just dropped my 2011 off with the same issue. They are replacing it under the TSB. Hopefully it will get fixed by this time tomorrow

I may be wrong on this but I recall reading in other threads this is normal. Mine does have a mild slip/thunk when pressing the gas after coasting at various speeds. On a downhill stop sign, my rpms rev a bit high before engaging but I don't believe either of these relate to the hard 1st to 2nd gear shift issues.

There's a TSB for the Limiteds now?
 
Mine kind of makes a noise that's a combination of a clunk and a click--when I park it. Doesn't sound like it's coming from the rear but rather right at the transmission--possibly the front differential. Anyone else have this occurring?

UPDATE....My service manager called me and told me my new driveshaft was in on Saturday so today Tuesday it's going in to get replaced, the clunk was still there even after greasing the Slipyolk.

Watch this space!!!!
 
OK,so yesterday I had the drive shaft replaced on my 12 LE, the tech said he had test drove it and the sound was gone. Trusting him on his word I happily drove out of the dealership, problem fixed? No.
So i drove it back and got the service manager AND the tech who replaced my drive shaft and took them for a drive.
I had no problem replicating the sound, the service manager said "OK" the tech said "Oh that sound, that's perfectly normal and every Toyota does that" To which I said, "Really" how come I never heard it until just recently and how come it only does it in 4th gear?
I then said to the service manager let's go take a new LE for a drive and if that vehicle does the same thing I'll assume your tech is right, he said OK and 5 mins later the service manager and I were driving in a new 13 LE.......no drive train thumping in ANY gear, he said OK the only thing he can do now is open a file with Toyota and try and find out what is causing the noise.
So for now I'm happy I proved my point, happy that it did not happen in the new LE as to me it's quite an annoying sound/feel.......I will just have to wait until we find out what happens now.
Has anyone else heard the same thing from their LE's?????
 
Sorry to hear that OP...I really hope you get it fixed and please keep us posted. I have been very happy with how smooth the transmission/drivetrain have been so far...but I just got mine...so crossing my fingers.

Can you put the part number they replaced it with? Like I said in a previous post, mine was replaced the other day and no thumping at all........so far
