13WH Vs 13WG Calipers question?

Looks like i bought the wrong calipers for my dad's 04 SR5. I bought the 13WH and the4runner has 13WG calipers. From the looks of it, they are the same. This 4runner did come with the 17" wheels.

The 13WH are used from a 07 w/32K and 17"wheels.

Before I return these (or sell them), I wanted to know if I can use the 13WH on this 4runner or I need to get the 13WG?

Your input is appreciated.

I just went through this (again) with my caliper change. My '04 SR5 with 16" wheels originally had 13WH. My replacements are the 13WL. The only difference I can see is the angle of the casting where the brake line attaches. I've never seen the 13WG. Can you post some pics?

Is the bolt pattern the same? The reason I ask is because the Sport brake caliper has a larger standoff for the bolt pattern.

Search for pics or check the link in my signature to get to my frozen piston brake caliper thread to see some pics.

Got some pics off napa to compare the difference.

Looks like the difference is the in the size in the length of the bolts arms. 13WH bolt arm is longer than the 13WG. So I'm assuming this difference is due to the rotor size. 13WH must be used with larger rotors.

what do you guys think?

Looks like the same pattern to me. I would go to an auto parts store that has both in stock to compare in person. You can always return a set if they don't fit

Edit: Now I see what you're talking about. Yeah it does look like it would accomodate a larger diameter rotor

Then I must be mistaken in my earlier info and have the WH and WG mixed up. I definitely am using the 13WL now with 16" wheels. I was going by memory as to what I had as OEM. I'll try to find an old pic. I saw the 13WH in the box over the parts counter but didn't notice the length difference.
Anyone on here with the OEM calipers want to chime in?

I wonder if I can get the larger rotors for these and use them on the SR5?

it would be nice to know if somone has done this setup

Yes, you have the larger wheels so that will work.

I believe it has been done before on here. Search sport brake conversion or something like that. I remember seeing the larger caliper picture before.

Let us know how you make out.

My 2004 Sport Edition has just started to develop frozen pistons on both front calipers.

I guess I should consider myself lucky for getting 6+ years out of them before they seized up on me. Anyway, the casting number on my front calipers is 13WH, and of course this is with the 17" wheels that come on the Sport Edition.

is it just me or is there a 16 and a 17 on the right hand side of the piston on each of them for the respective size wheel...?

Do the mounting holes change in size? I just bought some remans from autozone and the holes on the caliper are too small for the bolts so it won’t mount to the bracket.

To the best of my knowledge, both versions of the caliper use the same size bolt to mount to the knuckle. Since they are remanufactured, I would check the inside of those mounting holes. It is likely that they are coated with rust scale, that didn't get cleaned out during the reman process. Try cleaning the inside diameter of the holes with a round file and see if they open up.

As I look closer at the caliper it's got a cast code of 14wb. And I can't find the same ones anywhere. Any chance you got a idea where to find them?

I am assuming the remanufactured ones you got from autozone have the cast code of 14wb? If so, I have no idea what vehicle they are supposed to fit, let alone where to find them. If they are the ones you got from autozone, I would return them for the correct ones for your vehicle.

Mine say 14wb but I can't find anywhere that can get those or can even find them

I am still not sure what you are referring to. Are the remanufactured calipers from AutoZone marked 14wb, or the ones you found originally on the vehicle?

Also, I don't recall you giving us the specific vehicle info (year/model)

Posted in 5th gen Op did ! I checked some older threads & his are off a 2016 according to 14wa ! Op has a 2015 ? Someone might have upgraded his ?

Yes. Mine is a ‘15 sr5 4x4 and I bought it used so I’m guessing someone did something to the brakes before I got ahold of it. Upgrade maybe because they currently say 14wb. I even went to the Toyota lot and was crawling around under every ‘15 and ‘16 and out of all the ‘15s none of them said 14wb on them. Only the ‘16.

OK, so now lets get back to your original question about the mounting bolt size. If I understand all this correctly, you have a '15 SR5, which should use either the 13wh or 13wl marked calipers, but you found it has the 14wb calipers which should only come on the '16 and newer 4Runners. The remanufactured calipers you got from Autozone were marked 13wh/wl, and the bolts that attach the calipers you have on the vehicle (14wb) will not fit through the holes on the 13wh/wl calipers. Have I got it right?

If so, and you have checked to see if the remanufactured calipers do not have a rust scale build up inside the mounting holes which could be preventing the mounting bolts from fitting, then it means that the newer 14wb calipers on the '16 and up have larger bolts than the '15 and older have. If this is the case, then if a previous owner 'upgraded' the calipers to the 5th gen brakes, they would have had to also install a set of 5th gen knuckle assemblies to mount the calipers to. If this is the case, then your only option is to get a set of remanufactured calipers for a '16, 5th gen so that they will fit your vehicle. I would search through the threads pertaining to those that have already done the 5th gen caliper upgrade to 4th gens, and see if they also had to upgrade the knuckle assemblies so that the newer calipers would fit.

Another option would be to go to a Toyota dealer, and ask to see if the mounting bolts for both the '15's and '16's are the same bolt size, or different.
