14" TE guys weird noise

Any update on this issue? I have a 2015 TE with the same noise. It has been in the shop for 2 weeks now. Strut and strut top replaced with no improvement. If anyone has found a fix to this the toyota tech and I would appreciate knowing what works.

ive got a 14 SR5, yep no KDSS, have the same sound. been hunting for it for weeks. So it might not be a KDSS issue. We do have the same suspension, just different sway bars and KDSS "shocks".

my guess is bushings. same part #s across the board for all 4runners.

my truck sounds like its coming from the front but possibly back too, hard to track it down.

and it was doing it before the lift and tires when it had 3000 miles on it.

My '14 was on the lot in 10/13, so it has to be one of the early ones produced, and it has done this since day one. I'm now at 20k miles and it still does it, and I'm not concerned. I can replicate it every single day when I make a left turn out of my neighborhood to go to work. The turn is somewhat banked to the outside, so the front left wheel is carrying the least weight (which is the opposite of normal) so I just assume the suspension or KDSS is topping out or something, due to the reduced load. My vehicle is completely stock (even tires) and I have been on bumpy dirt roads at 50mph and not heard any weird noises from the suspension/KDSS, so if it makes a clunky chatter for 1 second when I'm making an off-axis turn on pavement at 20mph, I'm not gonna worry. I guess I'll keep an eye on this thread in case anyone learns anything from the dealer, but I think this has been blown out of proportion.

Sorry to revive this thread. New member here and was looking at purchasing a new Trail KDSS in the near future. In looking through the 5th gen threads, this is only issue I could find that seemed possibly significant (or at least annoying on a new vehicle) for the 5.5 gens that wasn't an isolated problem. As best I can tell, most folks that reported this were early 2014s? Can anybody with a later 2014/15/16 say whether or not they have this noise/clunk? For those that do have it, was there ever a fix or diagnosis, and has it led to any damage/performance issues?

Are there any other common problems/issues with the 5th gen I should be on the lookout for that I didn't find looking myself? Links to any threads I missed would be great. Thanks!

I'm glad to see that I'm not losing my effing mind! I picked up my 2016 TRDPro on 12-18-15 and started noticing this thud/thump noise when I go over hard bumps. Over bigger bumps and such, the suspension feels like it's working fine and not much noise. I can feel the thud/thump under my feet and it sounds like it's coming from the front at times and back at other times. I'd hate to take a 3 week old 4Runner back to the dealer for an issue but it looks like I might have too. Anyone come up with a solution.

The Pro clunk has been documented on the forum. It seems like just about all of us have it(only from the front end though) and only in cold temps. I don't believe anyone has been able to solve it yet though. Just do a search, and you'll find the thread.

Man was I glad to see this thread as I thought I was going crazy hearing this noise. I have a 14' TEP with KDSS manufactured 5/14 and I DO have this clunk, shuddering, hollow noise on a left turn with uneven surface.

All this time I thought it was the rear spacer and the springs (2.5" lift front with Daystar 1.5" spacer in rear) wobbling with the body roll. If it's normal so be it but I'll take a fix for sure!

I have a new (350 miles) 2016 TEP with KDSS and heard the clunk yesterday for the first time turning hard left over a bumpy transition into a parking lot. I guess it's normal?

I have a 16 TEP with KDSS and have started noticing it at about 2000 miles (currently at 2500). I thought I was going crazy and thought maybe it was the 5100's I put in, but glad I found this thread. Sounds like loose top hats, a shot ball joint, just like something really loose. Only on relatively sharp left hand turns over rough pavement. Sounds like its coming from the left side of the engine bay. Anyone have any luck yet with the dealership?

Has this clunk been isolated to only TEs with KDSS? I have a '14 LE that has a metal on metal clanging sound when I do low speed left hand turns. I haven't noticed the sound on right hand turns. Also, it happens not only on full lock, but also on slight left turns. It almost sounds like a spring uncoiling. Hard to pinpoint and describe.

2016 Trail Premium KDSS - Suspension thunk turning left

Hi All

Update from Denver. I have a 2016 Trail Premium with KDSS and about 13k miles. Bought it brand new. I had the suspension clunk when going over bumps over 20 mph from basically the day I got the car. Took it into the dealer twice and got blown off. Scoured the internet and found this post which gave me the fire power to tell them to dig deeper, specifically in to the KDSS suspension. Heard from dealer today and Toyota is sending new parts. Once I get to a successful resolution I'll post the exact remedy so hopefully you can reference if you have the issue while your truck is under warranty. This has been frustrating but I am hopeful that I can get the problem solved.
