15 amp Dome fuse keeps frying!

well i kinda stumbled on something you may be able to help me with, I have to print out the circuit diagrams in a bigger sheet so i can really trace and see where the connections are going, with everything OFF in the truck, there is a small current flow through the 15 amp dome and the fuse above it in the main fuse box.
Weird but the fuse box cover has a sticker saying that these two fuses should be inserted before the truck is given to the owner and the sticker removed, i will take a pic and post it up.
this makes some sense to the fact that i need a jump after not using the truck for 4 weeks, I'm gonna remove the two fuses when i park the truck for a long period and see what happens.
would this be for maintaining the memory in the radio and the trip odometer computer?

Having this same problem and cannot locate this short.. Jumped my 97 4runner in a hurry in the dark and crossed the cables. It blew the 100amp fuse. I then replaced the battery and the fuse. Now it keeps blowing the 15amp fuse for the dome lights and the power locks do not work however the power windows work fine. I have torn this thing apart. The radio is aftermarket and has a 10amp fuse built into the back of the unit which was also blown. I unhooked the stereo, no luck. I then unhooked everything from the interior junction box and no fuse didnt blow. I am trying to get this vehicle to my son that just turned 16 and Im going crazy trying to figure this out!! Any help would be sooo appreciated!!!

The first thing I would do is reconnect all the plugs to the fuse panel one-by-one. Tell us which one causes the fuse to go and we'll go from there. Use the diagram on p.22 of the attachment below and come back saying something like "It's plug 1F".

The diagram is from '98 but I'm hoping it's the same. I hate '97. It's the only year I don't have diagrams for.

Ok started plugging in connectors one by one and checking the fuse everytime. Didnt blow until I plugged in this connection, marked it with tape. It does appear that the 98 is a little different.

I thought I responded to you, but I guess it didn't take. Yeah, that box doesn't match '96 or '98 so you really need a '97 EWD. Then it's a matter of figuring which of the wires in that plug are fed by the DOME circuit and probing each of those pins to see which is shorting to ground. Then you trace that circuit to its next junction point.

If it was ANY other year, I could take you through it. Sorry.

Studying a little more, and I hate to do this, my best guess is you fried the 'integration relay', which is the yellow box on the bottom of the fuse panel, that is the brain for the locks, among other things.

Plug that one with the tape back in, unplug the integration relay, and see what happens when you replace the fuse.

Flying blind here, but let's give it a try.

I plugged in each cable and checked the fuse one by one, I think it may be a combination of plugs that are causing the short. I found a repair manual that shows an interior wiring diagram for 97 4runner/tacoma. Hope it may shed some light!

That's why I hate guessing. No, I need the interior wiring circuit of the aux. fuse panel to figure out where the DOME power goes. I think it actually comes IN on that plug with the tape. What happens if that is the ONLY plug in the panel? If it doesn't blow, then replug the others one-by-one.

Hope you have a lot of fuses.

So I guess there was never an actual solve to this problem for anyone except for guess work? haha
Currently having this same problem on my 2000 due to some dumbassery with connecting a new battery backwards, had to replace the 120a fuse for the alternator but everything else is fine except for this dumb dome light circuit.

you have the same year as mine. I pulled every relay i could find and cycled it with a separate 12v supply . someone stated above that the relay contacts must have been fused temporarily when the voltage was reversed. cant say for sure and don't like making wild guesses but that seems about right in regards to my problem. I have been free of electrical problems since thankfully as no permanent damage was done.

It sounds dumb when you jump a vehicle with reversed cables and i would always say it could never happen to me! never!!.. but in my case the vehicle i jumped from had red tape neatly wrapped all over the negative wire terminal..:shocked:.

I had the same problem and it was the LED light bulbs causing the issue.

So, I worked on the truck today pulling everything apart, and I finally got fix for mine. I will say I haven't been this happy in a long time after not having a radio for well over a month due to this issue. The light for the ring around the ignition cylinder where you put your key was what was causing mine to short out, once I unplugged that light the dome light fuse held and everything worked again. Just figured I would state what I did to fix mine on the thread incase anyone in the future with this problem comes across it, it could be an option to fix theirs.

15 Amp Dome Fuse Short Fix

On my 98 4runner I fixed the short by removing all of the wiring for the factory fog lights. The fog light circuit is connected directly to the battery, so when the polarity is reversed it is not protected by the alternator fuse. After removing the whole wiring loom the truck has had zero electrical problems. Let me know if this helps.

Blue 15a fuse on drivers footwell floor?

Hey guys,

New member here - I did a search for "blue 15A fuse" and found this thread which looked most relevant.

I installed LEDs in the map lights as well as the dome and cargo lights. in my wife's 2002. Everything works.

The other week she noticed a blue 15A fuse that was sitting on the drivers side floormat; it looked like it has just fallen out. Its not burned or anything, and everything seems normal to my knowledge. Has anyone had this happen? I'm trying to figure out what the fuse belongs to so I can replace it, and I'm wondering why it would have fallen out like that.

on my 96 t4r my dome light fuse keeps blowing too, cant find the short either. driving me insane, is there any like common spot to look for a short?
