17" or bigger wheels and tires under 33" look f*&%ing retarded on a truck.

Hit us with a shot straight from the side! Loving the wheel and tire combo

Sorry, I've been busy all week at work and tweaking the 4Runner and getting ready for the move.

Here's a Before & After side view:

Before with 33's and 1.5" Body Lift

So how do you plan to mount the spare? Will you be adding a swing-out rack on the back?

I plan on doing a full metal rear bumper with tire carrier (been saying that for years...) but with the move coming up in a week or so and trying to manage the budget a bit during the move, it will probably be a while. I just secured it today like an old Cherokee:

BlackWorksInc what a sexy beast (fuel) like what I did there? ... [emoji28] That is a damn good looking ride my friend! Love what you've done with it

Are there going to be any repercussions of running 265/75/16s instead of 265/70/16's? Rubbing, etc. Sorry, I don't know where else to post this question and I found a set of Tacoma wheels I'd love to pick up if it's not gonna **** anything up.

Probably not, they wouldn't be that much taller than factory. The backspacing for the wheels should be okay.

Since I am 58 years old this August and have been driving a truck, 4WD of some sort since I was 14, yes 14, I got my learners permit at 14, I have seen the tire-rim size evolve over the years...

Time was when a 15" rim was the big size, we ran 33" tires on a 15" rim. Guys also used this size in a 14" rim.

Then everyone went through the tall-skinny phase. Real narrow tires from the local farmers co-op.

I now see Hummers with the 24" rims, which is just plain stupid.

My 4Runner came with 17" rims, will stay with 17" rims and the the 265 tires are just fine. If and when I do lift it, 3" max, more than likely will be in the 1.5" leveling type, the largest tire I will run will be a 275. Only when I need new tires.

Look at it this way, the difference between a 265 and 285 on a 17" tire is 20mm X .7 / 25.4 = .55" in height. And if this is the difference in making or breaking, you need to rethink your set up. I know the lift gets more ground clearance and articulation, but I just think this set up not only works but looks great.

Now for stupid looking set up, there is a guy running around my town with a F250, looks like a 6" lift with normal/OEM tires, this looks ridiculous. That I will say, I may a little older, but I know silly when I see it.

Again, I am looking at it from 57.5 year old perspective and seen a lot of changes.

My 77 Bronco has a 3.5" James Duff lift, un cut rear fenders and I am running monster 235 X 15" tires and it looks great.

I ran through places and situations that you would not believe with my 1982 Bronco sporting 30" tires on 15" rims.

Suggestions please

I need some summers soon and have no idea what size I want to go with. I'm not doing any lifts or cool mods like you guys. I'm a kayaking mom in Vt, do a lot of dirt road driving with occasional highway trips. I thought I'd pick a set of wheels up off craigslist and keep finding Tacoma sets. Right now I'm looking at 245/70/16 Mastercraft coursers or 265/75/16 Starfire SF-510. The reviews on Starfires aren't so hot so it's throwing me off again. Now I'm thinking if I knew what size I was after there might be some better deals near me I'm overlooking because I'm stuck on the 265/70/16's that come stock. I'm mainly concerned about how it's going to effect the handling and if I go bigger, rubbing.

Another old guy here and I totally agree. I ran 31/10.5/15s on my 1st Gen 4Runner for (literally) decades. Now I have 16" rims on my 2004 with stock 265/70 tires. Once I lift it I see no reason to follow the fashion to 17+" rims. 265/75/16s should work just fine. A little bit taller sidewall vs. rim will probably work better in rougher terrain anyway.

I got bigger tires and had the same problem with the spare. I purchased a tiregate system that mounts to the hitch and swings out like a jeep. I can't stand how it blocks my rear camera though so I'm going to roof mount it there soon. Any takers in the DFW area looking for a hitch mounted option? pm me if so.
