Hello all, I recently purchased a 1987 4 runner with a 89 22r engine, it was converted from carb to FI, and has a automatic trans, The person I purchased from said he had it looked at by 2 mechanics and they told him it needed a transmission replacement. I will explain what it does and someone please chime in and let me know what you think, I personally beleive its the throttle position sensor. when the truck is cold and you start it it, you have to pump gas to get it to start, it then runs, idles just fine, you can put it in gear and drive around the block, it goes thru all gears but sorta dies off in high gear, the trans will kick down when throttle is floored, and pick up speed, the trans does not slip at all, but once the truck warms up, the throttle doesnt seem to respond at all, unless you feather it very lightly, and I mean super light, even in park or neutral once warmed up, the throttle is very sluggish and slow to respond, I have did the ohms check on the tps, and its sorta crazy, it can be dead on at one point ,then under or over the parameters, the next time you check, and the one im doing is with no feeler gage installed, just the 0.0mm gap. I was told that this truck ran great before this problem started with its previous owner. Before I throw a transmission ,or a throttle position sensor at this 4 runner, I wanted to see if anyone else has had experience with a problem like this, it just seems to me that if it was the transmission, it would slip instead of kill the throttle, but then again, I have never dealt with a toyota automatic transmission either. any help is super appreciated,
