Ask around about competent dealer service. I have owned 25 Toyota and Lexus products over my lifetime. They were all serviced at my preferred dealer and never had problem one. There are definitely some dealers who I would not have service a wheel barrow grease fitting.

I decided to take mine back to my dealer for its 10K service. Took about 1 hour and 15 minutes then it was ready. The invoice showed it was a 10K service and the type of oil used and a part (assume it was the filter). The service tech explained what the 10K service included. So I have to think they did everything they were supposed to do. I was satisfied with their work.

I USED TO (keep that in mind) work for a Toyota dealership. Some of the stuff they used to try and have us do was mind-blowing.

There would be times when i'd be working on 3 cars at once, oil change on one, suspension work on another and engine stuff on the 3rd. You simply cannot expect a tech to get everything 100% correct when he is forced to run around like an idiot to try and get it all done. Nevertheless, there were some idiots that called themselves mechanics. I wouldn't ever let them clean my car, let alone work on it.

Needless to say, failure to remove the skid plate for an oil change is complete incompetence.

I ended up leaving the dealership when I was told I was going "too slow" and there was no need to double check what I had just done.

Find yourself a reputable local mechanic or, better yet, learn to do it yourself!

The problem is that dealers won't drop the skids, because they don't give a damn. This has been happening since ages ago... I've had dealers spill oil all over the skid plate of my 3rd gen and make a mess of my Land Cruiser.

This is more common at Southern dealerships where most trucks are 2WD and don't have the skids.

It sounds like you had a very bad experience, but that certainly isn't the norm for most dealers. Most people who have good experiences with dealer maintenance don't feel the need to talk about their good experiences, but those who have problems are certainly more vocal about it -- and in your case rightfully so.

I just replaced my '04 with a '14. The '04 was serviced by my dealer for 10 years and they took great care of my truck. I bought my '14 from a dealer that's closer to me, and they have been great with my wife's Corolla.

wow. thanks for all the responses. I need to get on this site more often. Obviously this happens more often that often. I think on the next oil job. I wil either do it myself or just stand there and tel them how to do the job. I am sure this will just piss them off. oh well. I will check out the post mentioned so I can do it myself or atleast get a better idea, so whe I stand over them, I can pjust print out the pictures and hand them each a page at a time.

Good news - my $1500 check will be her ein about 2 weeks so I can start with a lift. Now need to figure whats the best for buck.. need left, black wheels and tires. Wil start a new post for that.

If you're equipped enough to do an oil change at home, I would just DIY and save yourself the stress and time of dealing with bringing it in and watching over them like a hawk.

I understand why you are pissed (and rightfully so), but handing them step by step instructions is not reasonable either and kind of disrespectful and demeaning, lol. Personally, if I felt I needed to do all that to get the job done properly, I would probably just go somewhere else

Do they use synthetic?

Is the dealer supposed to use synthetic? If so, any reason to believe that they wouldn't.
