1st water crossing for my baby

Santa Barbara earlier today. A few more inches and I think I might not have tried.

Of course after doing it once I had to do it again, and again, and again....

I stopped onced, right in the middle and the water was an inch above the bottom of the door line

And I would have loved to drive up river on this one, it was probably about 2ft deep...but that would have been illegal...still would have been fun. The water was so clear.

I'll give ya the location in the morning - its Spanish names and I'd get it wrong if I did it right now.

Its mostly a 2wd ridge line trip on really windy sealed and dirt roads - quite dangerous with many blind corners. Approx 3hrs round trip for 30miles. Awesome view over SB.

Anyhow I'll post the directions Sunday sometime.

Dont get me started on "SoCal meetup Yeah" - That's what this started out as - not many SoCal people on T4R actually drive offroad, let alone checkout the trip planning section

Maybe true. However, I was looking forward to my first off road opportunity but as previously stated it is Mother's Day Weekend. In other words Wifee gets to do what Wifee wants. Which was not off roading.

Don't be so hard. I do appreciate your effort. I am sure that you'll be surprised in the future at the number of folks from here who will meet up with you.

Heck, I don't want to be a 4WD poseur forever....

East takes you to the Big Caliente Springs. Ever been there?

I'm just 40 miles south of you in 1000 Oaks. We should plan a trip soon.

How do the 4runner hubs hold up to immersion?
Are they sealed any better than regular truck wheels. From my window the running boards are roughly as hi as the hubs.
We have an obscure road up hear with six submerged bridges that is always fun to do. Its called the knoxville lower lake road and is a blast in an suv or sportscar(at low water)

It also passes the closest offroad area to the north bay the Knoxville BLM area.

Agua Caliente Springs - North of Santa Barbara

To get there: From 101 west of SB, head north on Hwy 154. Turn right on painted cave Road after about 5.6 miles.

Reset odometer at start of Painted cave Road. After steep winding climb, pass Painted cave on left at 2.4 miles. (look for signage). At 3.2 miles trun right uphill on rutted paved road. Roads wind along ridges and enters forest. Bear left at 12.3 miles where FS 5N25 goes downhill. Bear left at 19.1 miles where pavement ends. Concrete water crossing at 24.4. Bear right at 27.5 on FS 5N16. More water crossings before reaching end of trail at 30.1 miles. Hot spring on your right, more hot springs by hiking 0.8 miles. There are change-rooms and toilets (vault) at hot spring. Don't forget your bathers!

Don't forget to check out Chamash Indian Painted caves - suggest you take a strong flashlight to see pictures better.

Overall a very easy drive for any stock SUV although last water crossing varies in depth depending upon recent rains.

Do 4th gens have an extended rear diff breather or do you have to mod it like on the 3rd gens? Or do they have something else to keep the water out of the diff?
