2 many broke runners build

I have purchased all my runners in not running condition and this is the only one I've fixed. It is a 1986 4runner with 22re swapped w series tranny. It originally came from Illinois, land of no inspections. So it's had a hard life came to me from PO as a mud truck. Has hole in the hood from vacuum hose snorkel. I've rebuilt the engine swapped out the auto and utilized the 3.5" body lift with a flat belly. Wheeled the crap out of it accumulated parts to swap in a solid axle. So here it is when I got it.

I plan on removing the body lift so there will be lots of floor modifications in its future. But the game plan now is duals, SAS, ruf, 63s, hi steer. Just stated on this stuff this past weekend.

This is how we mocked up the rear spring hangers

With springs in place set the shackle angle

On to the front I will get some weld pics once there cleaned up a bit.
Front cam bolts came right out since I've aligned this rig after a few wheeling trips.

Than unbolted a few things and the front was free.

Anybody want a 4.88 diff

And took plasma cutter to the brackets

I'm using dual shielded wire .45 with mix gas so I'm thinking a lot has to do with my technique. My friend says I need solid wire but I'm not buying a roll for this big welder.

And yes the body lift will come off just have a lot to so with the gas tank, horse collar and tranny tunnel. So may not be till spring, need my truck back before winter. I usually dd it.

Rylan and I got some springs tore down for the ruf mix pack. Some original 48" main and secondary. Rest is from some 51" rears, and set of Downey springs.

Final product has seven leafs one is anti wrap.

Slowed the progress some do to some back pain lately. But got the frame almost completely ground down, also the front spring hanger area.

Need to plate the frame cant decide on just a section to seal up the motor mounts and shock hoop. Or from vin plate to front hanger.


I cut a piece of 3/16" down to fit in between spring hanger and front cross member.

Didn't really need this but dont like the gap most have with the hanger flush mounted.

Got the hanger in place and started bolting springs up

Let the weight of the rig on the springs to figure where frame tubes will be



Found the frame tube is right at the body mount.


Frame jig in place for proper angle of the tubes.

FYI frame has a few reinforcements to cut through

Found some mud must have found its way in the frame

just need a little cleaning up than tack and check the angles

Nice work so far! Just curious, why would you weld over the drain hole?

On the axle housing, because I wheel lots of rocks. Have a friend in our club MO4wd, bashed the drain bolt loose. On the way home lost all the fluid and the destroyed the diff.

My awesome wife got me go pro. So I tried it out a bit.



got the frame tube holes cleaned up and aligned AND TACKED

Found some solid wire and got some decent welds finally




Bolted the springs in for shackle angle final tuning

its a little high at 52 degrees but after i remove a leaf it will be better

Started burning the hanger in place
