Spent last week catching small mountain trout (rainbows and browns) in the Smoky's. When we were in Glacier, I rented some fly rods and hit the rivers. I saw some BIG fish (assuming they were cutthroat), but they wouldn't even look at my fly.
Now that you showed that awesome boat pic, let's see some big montana cutthroat to go with your username!
Depending on where you were in Glacier and how BIG those fish were, they could have been Bull Trout (pics 1 and 2). Bull Trout are piscivorous (i.e. feed on other fish), so your fly offerings may not have represented what they eat. Typically you would throw large streamers at Bull Trout, sometime large Golden Stone nymphs. Bull Trout often exhibit lockjaw and will ignore all offerings. In contrast, Cutthroat (pics 3 and 4).
