2003: About to Hit 160K Miles

I don't post on here often, but always appreciate the help I get when I do!

I have an '03 4Runner Sport, V-6, 2WD

It is about to hit 160K miles. We had the recommended 100,000 mile service at the Toyota dealership, but since then have only done oil and filter and tires.

Just seeing what you would recommend when I take it in for the next service?

Never hurts to get a new trans filter along with a drain and fill of the fluid (kinda has to anyway, if you do the filter). Make sure you use the toyota ATF T-IV, I really dont trust that "Import" stuff thats supposedly compatible with toyota sold from advance auto/autozone.

Spark plugs as well. Even if you have the 100k denso/ngk plugs, I would do them at 160, but it all depends on your driving habits and such. A cheaper option is to get the Denso platinum TTs and replace every 30-40K. Its a little more maintenance, but youll always have fresh enough plugs burning fuel.

Keep an eye on your front wheel bearings. If they havent gone out around the 90k mark, pay close attention. Had front end bearings go out, without fail, at 90K on my 04, and my moms 07 FJ. Albeit, we do heavy mountain driving, and rough roads.

Finally, it wouldnt hurt to change out the differential fluid in the rear. I use the Mobil 1 Full syn, and it takes 3.1 in the rear. Seeing as you have just the 2WD, it'll be alot cheaper than a 4WD model.

If you can do this all yourself (which is relatively easy), you could save alot of money. However, if you want a shop to do it, just worry about the plugs and transmission. Best of luck.

When's the last time you flushed the cooling and brake systems?
They both need it periodically.
