2004 4runner Clicking While Starting

My 2004 4runner having a problem starting and noticed it's making a clicking sound in the dash even when the ignition key is removed! I cleaned the battery terminals and replaced the battery with an Optima red-top. I noticed if I reseat the negative battery terminal the car would start right away. So I don't think it's the starter. It seems it could be a bad ignition switch since the clicking sound continues after the ignition key is removed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

starter could have a dead spot in it which wouldnt catch periodically....but that wouldnt explain the "clickin" noise in the dash with the key removed. only think i can think of there is a bad ground somewhere, possibly the negative battery cable, since you refered to it in saying that when you reposition it the vehicle starts right up. id start there. hope this helps.
