So I’m finally gonna be getting what I think is a good deal on an 05 Sport, with 180k miles, and it’s galactic grey. I found a guy who’s selling one for $800. But here’s the catch, from what he’s telling me it needs the new ECU synced at a dealership, a battery, most likely a tune up because it’s been sitting for a while, and apparently the fuel pump is hanging out of the tank? I’ll know for sure when I see it in person. But would syncing the ECU at home be an option? $800 sounds pretty cheap for this right?

Sounds very cheap, you should be able to get $200 for the hood alone if its in decent shape should you decide to part out.
Honestly, sounds like a bit of a headache to tackle re-assembly. Especially if you cant start it to make sure he's not full of shit. I'd look for the signs of a blown HG also.
Yeah, I’m gonna be driving out there this weekend to make sure it’s worth the money before I pay him. The thing is, is this guy had bought it off someone else who was trying to sell this last year for $2500. He says it comes with the new ECU. But worse comes to worst, it’s only $800 lol. I’ll try and figure it out I guess.

From my research on the VIN, it says it hasn’t had any serious problems or accidents, and that’s actually an SR5 sport with around 180k.
Hatch looks pretty rusty (not abnormal).
Where is this truck located? I'd definitely look at the frame since I see its parked in snow and if its from the midwest/north east etc these frames don't do too well with rust/salt.
The only offputting thing is the fact that it comes with a "new ECU" but it wasn't programmed at a Toyota dealer. I'd be concerned that they might not program it if you didn't buy it from them with programming. The "new ecu" could also be a used unit and Toyota may not be willing to re-program a used part.
It’s up in Maine about 120 miles from me in Bar Harbor. I found a website that offers programmed ECU’s by your VIN, so I figured I’d go that route if this one doesn’t work. And I will definitely check everything out thoroughly, I’ve worked on cars for years, I just don’t have experience with this ECU stuff.
