2007 limited with JBL, want to move to OEM nav HU

Hey folks,

Anyone change out their oem JBL for the OEM nav head unit? Would like some advice as to wear I can buy the HU and any install issues I may face? Or.. Should I just find a HU through say Crutchfield? I hear they have kits to keep my steering wheels controls working and such.

I am a bit confused about another wire I may need to connect for proper gps functionality? Everything I have read here on the forums lead me to believe there is another wire but I may not need to connect since I have a JBL system?

Yea. Don't do it. The OEM HU are way overpriced. Unless you can find one for cheap from a friend/website/junk yard; it isn't worth it.

There are tons of aftermarket options with equal to, or superior quality for much cheaper.

If a "bolt" from toyota costs 10 bucks, you can guess what a nav unit will cost. Expensive.

There are JBL integration modules and steering wheel interface modules that keep those things intact when you go the aftermarket route. I have installed quite a few Nav systems in those 4runners. You won't be disappointed going the aftermarket route. I would highly recommend you stick with a well known brand my top 2 are Alpine and Pioneer, Kenwood is nice also (although my problem with Kenwood is that I have never liked their GUI, but they are feature packed and have lots of customization options)

Just installed a Pioneer AVIC in my 4 runner replacing the factory JBL system. You can get a module to make the steering wheel controls work if the HU you buy supports wired remotes (most do). You will also need a TATO to make the use of the jbl amp and stock speakers. It is pretty much plug and play. The biggest challenge is finding a dash kit/face plate that looks good.
